Overview:

We are seeking a versatile and dynamic Apparel Designer to manage the end-to-end design lifecycle for our diverse client base. This role requires a keen eye for global and Indian fashion and the ability to adapt trends for specific markets. The ideal candidate will balance the technical requirements of international buyers as well as the commercial aesthetics demanded by major Indian retailers (e.g., Westside, Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle).

Key Responsibilities

International Export Market Focus

• Global Trend Analysis: Conduct extensive research on upcoming international fashion trends, colors, fabrics, and silhouettes for key target markets (e.g., USA, Europe), translating global trends into commercially viable designs.

• Technical Specification (Tech Packs): Develop comprehensive and highly detailed tech packs, including precise garment specifications, construction notes, measurements, and trim details, suitable for seamless production by overseas manufacturers.

• Buyer Communication: Maintain clear daily communication with international buyers and vendors to ensure the design vision aligns with client specifications and quality standards.

Domestic Market Focus (Indian Retail)

• Domestic Market Strategy: Understand and meet the specific fashion needs, price points, and seasonal requirements of the Indian domestic market.

• Diverse Category Design: Design across a wide range of women's apparel, encompassing both Western wear (dresses, tops, trousers, outerwear) and Indian ethnic wear (Kurtis, suits, ethnic separates, occasion wear).

• Retailer Collaboration: Work closely with the merchandising and sales teams to align design concepts with the buying calendars and private label requirements of major Indian retail partners (e.g., Westside, Shoppers Stop).

General Design and Development

• Design and Development: Develop seasonal themes, mood boards, sketches (flat sketches), and digital illustrations (CADs) using industry-standard software. Develop new designs regularly based on client needs and seasonal requirements.

• Material Sourcing: Source appropriate fabrics, trims, and embellishments from vendors, ensuring quality and cost guidelines are met.

• Sampling and Fit Evaluation: Oversee the creation of prototypes and samples, conduct fit sessions, and communicate technical corrections to pattern makers and production teams.

• Production Coordination: Collaborate with production teams to ensure the design vision is executed accurately during mass production while maintaining quality standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Education: A Bachelor's degree or diploma in Fashion Design or a related field.

• Experience: 2-5+ years of relevant experience in an apparel design setting, preferably within an export house environment.

o Prior experience designing for prominent Indian domestic retailers (Westside, Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle) is highly desirable.

o Experience in both Western wear and Indian ethnic wear categories

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) is a must. Knowledge of pattern making, garment construction, and PLM software is valued.

• Market Knowledge: A strong understanding of current fashion trends in both the international and rapidly evolving Indian domestic markets.

• Soft Skills: Strong creativity, exceptional attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
