Salary Range:

₹25,000 – ₹35,000 per month

Purpose Of The Role

The Apparel Merchant will be responsible for coordinating product development, maintaining effective communication with clients, and liaising with internal factory departments to ensure on-time production and delivery of high-quality garments. This role bridges buyers and factory operations, ensuring smooth execution of orders from sampling to shipment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Development & Sampling

  • Coordinate with design and sampling teams to develop new styles as per buyer requirements.
  • Ensure timely execution of samples (proto, fit, PP samples) and approvals.
  • Assist in sourcing trims, fabrics, and accessories for product development.

2. Client Communication & Order Management

  • Maintain regular communication with buyers/clients for approvals, queries, and updates.
  • Share technical details, timelines, and feedback with relevant departments.
  • Prepare and update order status reports to keep clients informed.

3. Production Follow-up

  • Liaise with production, quality, and sourcing teams to ensure adherence to timelines.
  • Monitor production progress against critical path and proactively address potential delays.
  • Track fabric/trim availability and resolve bottlenecks for smooth execution.

4. Quality & Compliance

  • Coordinate with QA teams to ensure buyer quality standards are met.
  • Facilitate inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented when needed.

5. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare T&A (Time & Action) calendars and maintain order files.
  • Assist in preparing shipment documents and approvals as per buyer requirements.
  • Maintain updated reports on sampling, approvals, production, and delivery status.

Skills And Competencies Required

  • Strong knowledge of apparel product development and production processes.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under tight timelines.
  • Good understanding of fabrics, trims, and garment construction.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of ERP systems is a plus.
  • Team player with problem-solving attitude and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in Fashion/Apparel Merchandising, Textile Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in apparel merchandising (preferably export or buying house).
