Job Title: Mortgage Underwriter
Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze loan files for compliance with regulations, lending guidelines, and legal standards.
  • Independently approve, deny, or withdraw loan applications based on program requirements and credit policies.
  • Evaluate borrower credit profiles, financial statements, income, assets, liabilities, and collateral to make sound credit decisions.
  • Perform quality audits and ensure accurate documentation of loan files.
  • Utilize automated underwriting systems (DU, LP) to support decision-making.
  • Identify red flags, suspicious activity, and ensure ethical lending practices.
  • Collaborate with loan originators and operations teams to obtain required documentation.
  • Ensure timely and professional communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in mortgage processing.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage lending regulations, underwriting guidelines, and loan documentation.
  • Proficiency with DU and LP systems (DE, FHA, VA, USDA experience preferred).
  • Strong analytical, auditing, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), organizational, and time management skills.
  • High school diploma required; bachelor's in finance, accounting, or related field preferred.
