Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-anaesthetic evaluations and assess patient fitness for surgery.

  • Plan and administer anaesthesia including general, regional, local, and monitored anaesthesia care.

  • Manage airway and ventilation, including advanced airway procedures when required.

  • Monitor patients intra-operatively and ensure hemodynamic stability and safety.

  • Provide post-anaesthesia care and manage immediate recovery, pain control, and complications.

  • Participate in emergency response activities (code blue, trauma, difficult airway, etc.).

  • Support ICU and critical care management under supervision as needed.

Procedural Skills

  • Perform procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, arterial line cannulation, nerve blocks, spinal/epidural anaesthesia, and sedation.

  • Ensure adherence to aseptic and safety protocols during procedures.

Patient Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Follow evidence-based anaesthesia protocols and safety checklists.

  • Monitor and report critical incidents, near misses, and peri-operative outcomes.

  • Participate in morbidity & mortality (M&M) discussions and quality improvement projects.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely anaesthesia records, pre-op assessments, and post-op notes.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory guidelines.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and allied health staff to coordinate patient care.

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families about anaesthesia plans, risks, and post-operative care.

Teaching & Professional Development

  • Teach and supervise residents, interns, and technicians as assigned.

  • Participate in departmental academic activities, CME programs, and case discussions.

  • Stay updated with advancements in anaesthesia and critical care practices.
