About Our Team
The Content and Data Sourcing (CDS) team leads the acquisition and licensing strategy for third-party content across a broad range of Elsevier products. We manage relationships with over 15,000 content partners, covering diverse content types such as books, journals, standards, funding data, and patents, along with associated data elements like abstracts, keywords, and references. Our mission is to ensure compliant access and reuse of content to support strategic, monetizable innovation. The CDS team drives successful onboarding of new sources and content providers, securing rights and permissions, and establishing effective content delivery.
About The Role
As Team Manager, you will lead a team of senior individual contributors responsible for managing strategic high-value content partners. In addition to overseeing the team's operational and strategic activities, you may also directly manage select key accounts, serving as the primary point of contact for these partners. Your role focuses on building and nurturing trusted relationships, ensuring effective contract negotiation and rights management, maintaining strict compliance with organizational policies, and delivering exceptional service. You will drive team performance, foster stakeholder engagement across internal and external groups, and ensure the successful execution of partnership objectives to achieve business excellence.
Responsibilities
- Build and nurture trusted relationships with content partners, leading onboarding activities.
- Manage and govern content sourcing and data licensing for a portfolio exceeding 10,000 content partners.
- Develop scalable plans to expand source types and diversify content through long-term partnerships.
- Segment sources by content format, type, processing time, usage, and customer value to streamline sourcing pipelines and address gaps.
- Onboard new data contributors and content partners according to agreed business targets.
- Identify and pursue new content types and sources to enhance diversity.
- Design and improve the content partner engagement journey to broaden and deepen content and data access and reuse rights.
- Partnering for Monetizable Innovation
- Collaborate with business teams to develop sourcing strategies for new products, services, or diversification.
- Provide data catalogs and metrics to benchmark coverage against market offerings.
- Compliance & Risk Management - Ensure compliance with data use cases and engagement efforts.
- Work jointly with teams to define sourcing formats, frequency, and coverage aligned with product releases.
- Manage high value accounts with regular customer interaction, including contract negotiation.
- Handle sensitive customer relationships diplomatically, building trust and standing behind commitments.
- Formulate and implement rights and permissions policies covering access, reuse, and obligations.
- Establish a customer experience (CX) design thinking framework to expand and automate content sourcing capabilities.
- Monitor and manage Content Partner Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) and Net Promoter Score (NPS) metrics to ensure high levels of partner and customer satisfaction; analyze feedback to identify improvement areas and implement targeted actions to enhance the overall customer experience.
- Develop customized outreach programs and represent Elsevier at conferences and events to build alliances.
- Lead and manage a team of Publishing Relationship Managers, fostering high engagement, collaboration, and role clarity.
- Manage conflicts by prioritizing customer needs.
- Monitor employee engagement metrics (eNPS, EOS, office vibe) and provide mentorship and coaching as needed.
- Cultivate an inclusive, agile, and sustainable work culture.
- Measure and analyze acquisition process metrics, including rights and permissions success rate, partner CSAT, NPS, onboarding speed, contract lifecycle, and governance
- Establish baseline metrics and develop year-over-year productivity improvement plans.
- Own the third-party content acquisition budget, negotiating favorable contract terms.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree of any discipline
- Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong people leadership and management skills.
- Knowledge of rights and permissions management, contract negotiation, and compliance.
- Manages a team of experienced, senior individual contributors
- Designs and communicates objectives, key results, and KPIs for the Content/Data Sourcing team
- An understanding of AI technologies and data literacy is essential to effectively leverage data-driven insights and support innovation in content sourcing and partner management
