The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you'll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You'll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

There's never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You'll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You'll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

• A minimum of 2 years' experience is necessary in Mainframe Resiliency

• knowledge of z/OS System, including OS internals, JES2/JES3, IPL, and SMP/E.

• Skills in Parallel Sysplex Management for configuring and maintaining clustering for high availability.

• Understanding of Disaster Recovery Planning

• Familiarity with Automation Tools like IBM System Automation and REXX scripting.

• Understanding of Storage Management and related technologies like DASD, HSM, DFSMS, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, FlashCopy.

• Capability in Security Management, utilising RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret for secure operations.

• Understanding of Network Resiliency, including VTAM, TCP/IP stack failover, and OSA interfaces.

• Skills in Monitoring & Performance Tuning using OMEGAMON, RMF, SMF, and similar tools.

• Clustering & HA: Parallel Sysplex, Coupling Facility, GDPS

• Monitoring: IBM OMEGAMON, SysView, MainView

• Backup/Recovery: DFSMS, DFSMShsm, FlashCopy, Tape Libraries

• Security: RACF, Top Secret, ACF2, zSecure

• Automation: System Automation for z/OS, NetView, REXX

• Regular participation in HA/DR testing (failure simulations)

• Conducting periodic resiliency assessments of hardware, software, and processes

Security Resilience:

• Advanced knowledge of RACF, Top Secret, or ACF2 for access control

• Enforcing multi-factor authentication, encryption at rest and in transit, and privileged access monitoring

• Enhancing resilience against cyber threats including ransomware and insider risks

• Utilizing z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology for optimised encryption workloads

System Redundancy & Fault Tolerance:

• Expertise in redundant hardware components (CPUs, memory, power supplies, channels, etc.)

• Managing Parallel Sysplex clusters for shared workload and data

• Implementing GDPS for automated disaster recovery across locations

High Availability (HA):

• Removing single points of failure

• Utilising Sysplex Timer / STP for clock synchronisation

• Employing Coupling Facilities (CF) for shared data among systems

• Enabling data sharing across DB2 instances within a Parallel Sysplex

• Using XCF for inter-system messaging and coordination

Disaster Recovery (DR):

• Planning and achieving effective Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO)

• Applying tools such as GDPS/PPRC, GDPS/GM, GDPS/XRC for various types of replications

• Managing tape-based and virtual tape backups

• Integrating with z/OS DFSMSdss, DFSMSrmm, DFSMShsm
