Senior Technical Lead

Role Overview

As a Senior Technical Lead Data Engineer, you will play a dual role as a hands-on contributor and team leader. You will architect, build, and scale data platforms and pipelines that power our AdTech ecosystem. In addition, you will mentor junior engineers, enforce best practices, and collaborate across functions to ensure high-quality, high-performance data systems.

You will be responsible for driving the next generation of our analytics and data infrastructure by leveraging modern big data and cloud technologies.

Objectives

• Define and implement scalable data strategies that meet product and business needs.
• Design and optimize data pipelines for batch and real-time use cases.
• Act as a player-coach – balancing leadership, mentorship, and hands-on coding.
• Ensure the reliability, quality, and governance of data assets across the organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable data-driven insights and product innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and optimize large-scale batch and streaming pipelines using frameworks like Apache Spark on AWS/GCP.
• Design, manage, and automate data flows across multiple sources and destinations.
• Define and enforce data quality, reliability, and governance standards.
• Drive best practices for CI/CD, testing, and automation in data engineering workflows.
• Mentor and guide a team of data engineers while contributing as an individual contributor.
• Work with product managers, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions.
• Optimize the scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of data systems.
• Stay up to date with emerging data technologies and recommend adoption where beneficial.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (exceptional coding performance on platforms like LeetCode/HackerRank may substitute).
• 6–10 years of data engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in a lead/mentorship role.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages – Python or Scala preferred.
• Expertise in big data frameworks: Spark, MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, Sqoop, HDFS, Airflow, Zookeeper.
• Experience with cloud platforms – AWS (EMR, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB) or GCP equivalents.
• Hands-on with Databricks Notebooks and Jobs API.
• Strong knowledge of SQL (RDBMS + NoSQL: Postgres, MySQL, Redshift, Redis) with query optimization and schema design.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and workflow orchestration (Airflow, Luigi).
• Proficient in Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to act as a player-coach (individual contributor + team lead).
