Assistant General Manager Environment Health and Safety

Key Responsibilities:

1. EHS Strategy & Leadership

• Develop and implement the companys EHS policies, procedures, and strategies in line with corporate objectives and legal requirements.
• Drive a proactive safety culture through leadership, awareness, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish measurable goals for EHS performance and ensure their effective monitoring and achievement.

2. Compliance & Audits

• Ensure full compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, standards, and regulations (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO
• Liaise with government bodies (Pollution Control Boards, Factories Inspectorate, etc.) for statutory clearances, renewals, and audits.
• Conduct regular EHS audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

3. Safety Management

• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and oversee training programs on safety awareness, emergency response, and safe operating practices.
• Ensure effective functioning of safety committees and promote employee participation in safety programs.

4. Environmental Management

• Monitor and control emissions, effluents, and waste management systems as per environmental norms.
• Implement initiatives for energy conservation, water management, and environmental sustainability.
• Prepare and submit periodic environmental reports to authorities and management.

5. Occupational Health

• Oversee occupational health surveillance programs and medical check-ups for employees.
• Ensure availability and maintenance of health and safety equipment, PPE, and first-aid facilities.

6. Continuous Improvement

• Benchmark best EHS practices and adopt innovative technologies for safety and sustainability.
• Drive behavioral-based safety (BBS) initiatives and engage employees at all levels.

Desired Candidate Profile:

• Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Environmental / Mechanical / Chemical Engineering with a Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by State Govt / AICTE).

• Experience: Minimum 1520 years of EHS experience in a large manufacturing / cement / process industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

• Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and training skills.
• Proficiency in EHS management systems, audits, and risk assessment tools.
• Ability to handle external agencies and regulatory bodies effectively.

Technical Skills

• In-depth knowledge of EHS laws, regulations, and compliance (Factories Act, Environment Protection Act, etc.)
• Expertise in ISO EMS) and ISO OHSMS) implementation and audits.
• Proficiency in risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation techniques.
• Hands-on experience in environmental monitoring (air, water, waste, noise)
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene, occupational health standards, and emergency response systems
• Familiarity with waste management, pollution control systems, and sustainability initiatives.
• Ability to develop and implement EHS Management Systems and Safety Management Plans.

Leadership & Managerial Skills

• Strong leadership and people management skills to drive safety culture across all levels.
• Ability to influence and engage cross-functional teams to achieve EHS goals.
• Experience in policy formulation, strategy implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proficiency in stakeholder management (government authorities, contractors, and internal teams)
• Effective crisis management and decision-making under pressure.
