Hospital Financial Counsellor

A hospital financial counselor's job description includes guiding patients through financial and insurance procedures, verifying coverage, securing pre-certifications, and helping with payment arrangements. Key responsibilities
· Patient guidance: Explain financial responsibilities, help with payment plans, and assist with patient admissions and paperwork.
· To convert the Op patients to IP Patient.
· Insurance and pre-certification: Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility, initiate pre-certification with insurance companies, and gather clinical information as needed.
· Administrative duties: Collect necessary documents, sign-off forms, and update patient records.
· Communication: Liaise with patients, families, insurance companies, and other hospital departments to ensure smooth financial processing.
· Financial aid: Assist patients in applying for financial aid programs.
Essential skills and qualifications
· Communication: Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and empathetically to patients and families.
· Interpersonal skills: Skill in building rapport and trust with patients who may be under stress.
· Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, documents, and deadlines.
· Knowledge: Understanding of medical billing, insurance policies, and financial concepts.
· Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field like finance, business, or economics is often required.
