Azure HCI Engineer

Role Description:

We are looking for a Cloud Lead Engineer to architect, execute solutions and write code to enable the completion of our migration to a Hybrid Cloud architecture.

Your key responsibilities

• Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle with well designed, testable and efficient code.
• Build features and applications designed for the unique characteristics of distributed platforms and cloud.
• Ensure designs are in compliance with specifications and regulations.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Support the adoption of DevOps, SRE & FinOps
• Work on toil reduction
• Actively contribute and deliver on automation and observability of KPIs.
• Work with the wider community of engineers to increase standards & discipline.
• Ability to drive incident management, problem management forums and postmortems across operations, infrastructure, networks, engineering and product teams to find root cause.
• Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software.

Your skills and experience

Must Have:

• Degree in Computer Science, Statistics or relevant field
• Minimum 6+ years of coding in Java - as an individual contributor or development lead
• Hands-on experience with a Public Cloud provider. AWS, Azure or – ideally - Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with the components of modern cloud best practice:
• Infrastructure as Code – With Terraform.
• Compliance with Policy as Code – With Terraform Sentinel.
• Infrastructure on demand, auto-scaling and cost optimization.
• CI / CD using Jenkins, Github & Github Actions.
• Containerization with Docker.
• Kubernetes – ideally with Google Kubernetes Engine or RedHat OpenShift.
• Packaging using Helm.
• Service Meshes – With either Anthos Service Mesh or, ideally, Consul Service Mesh.
• Open-Source dependency management and CVE mitigation.
• Automated testing, BDD and TDD.
• Observability using Google Cloud Operations or NewRelic.
• Comprehensive understanding of security fundamentals:
• Certificates, keys and their management
• Secret best practices and management
• At-rest and in-transit encryption mechanisms and algorithm comparisons
• Binary authorization
• Authentication and authorization
• Service accounts and identity federation
• Robust logging, tracing and anomaly detection
• Experience with Oracle, SQL, PLSQL, Liquibase.
• Exposure to distributed data platforms like Hadoop with Spark.
• Very good knowledge of API-based service design. Understanding of microservices architecture principles using the Spring framework. Working knowledge of tools and technologies supporting service design like API gateways, service registries, discovery and service meshes.
• A history of Agile software delivery with active participation in all ceremonies and use of common tooling like Jira.
• Good stakeholder management and communication.
• Ability to translate customer and product requirements into stable, sustainable and reusable solutions.
• Ability to identify inefficiencies, duplication and look at ways and means for simplification.
• Ability to work under pressure and drive resolution for major incidents.

Nice to have:

• Hands-on UI development in React.
• Data transformation/dataflow processing on Cloud platforms
• SRE experience or prior implementation.
• In-depth Oracle database experience. Working with complex queries, performance tuning, data modelling or exposure to Exadata. Exposure to enterprise data strategies and architecture would be a plus.
• Exposure to non-relational datastores like MongoDB
