About Us:

We are opening a new BPO vertical and seeking a skilled Senior Accountant & Company Secretary to establish and lead our accounting and compliance function.

Job Overview:

This is a foundational position where you will be the first hire in the department, responsible for setting up and managing all accounting, bookkeeping, compliance, and regulatory activities. You will design department processes, handle bank and head office liaison, oversee all statutory requirements (including MCA-related work), manage minutes of meetings, ensure adherence to agreements, handle tax compliance, and work closely with external Chartered Accountants.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Set up, manage, and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, maintain balances, and meet operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews.
  2. Process month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital asset and trust account reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, and debt activity.
  3. Identify, resolve problems, and initiate system improvements in accounting and compliance processes.
  4. Meet financial accounting objectives and ensure all reporting deadlines are achieved.
  5. Supervise accounts payable and receivable functions.
  6. Approve ledger entries by auditing transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  7. Maintain financial security by enforcing and adhering to internal controls and company policies.
  8. Monitor, analyze accounting data, generate financial reports, and prepare financial statements and bank reconciliation statements.
  9. Establish and maintain accurate and organized fiscal files and records to document transactions.
  10. Coordinate, complete, and support periodic audits, including monthly checks on treasury activities to eliminate discrepancies.
  11. Develop, implement, and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, principles, systems, procedures; initiate corrective actions as required.
  12. Handle all technical and operational tasks typically managed by both senior and junior positions.
  13. Contribute to hazard assessment and determine operational controls for department activities.
  14. Maintain confidentiality of internal and external information.
  15. Apply, fulfil, and ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  16. Enforce security rules and ensure adherence by team and self.
  17. Implement and act in accordance with the organization's information security policies.
  18. Protect assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction, or interference.

Qualifications:

  • Mandatory: Company Secretary (CS) certification.
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (BCom, BBA, MBA).
  • Professional accounting qualification (CA, CMA, etc.) or semi-qualified status preferred.
  • 5-10 years' relevant experience — experience in setting up department/processes is a strong plus.
  • Experience in preparation of financial schedules, tax filings, disclosures, and building financial models.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent English communication, presentation, and reporting abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office and accounting software/databases.
  • Integrity, initiative, attention to detail, and ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Proven technical leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
