Team Introduction:  The Workplace Real Estate and Facilities (WREF) organization oversees 126 sites worldwide, managing 2.5 million square feet of office space for more than 24,000 staff. This property portfolio has an annual operating spend of approximately £110 million.

Job Purpose:  This role is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on employee safety, risk management, and compliance at GSK.  This role is responsible for providing clear safety compliance support and oversight to Workplace Real Estate and Facilities (WREF) Operations in alignment with the overall company Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) strategy and Internal Control Framework.  It will provide focused directions to facility operations, partnering with Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS), service provider professionals and with Corporate Functions to drive good safety compliance practice within Workplace Real Estate and Facilities (WREF), driving safety improvements, minimizing loss, enabling the management of operational risk and embedding a culture that prioritizes safety and compliance.  Collaboration is key—you'll work closely with cross-functional teams, local champions, and leadership to drive safety initiatives and compliance improvements. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Safety & Compliance Guidance: Advise on safety, risk, and compliance for 125+ global locations, ensuring alignment with EHS and Engineering policies.
  • Audit & Inspection Readiness:  Embed a culture of safety and compliance across all operations and lead activities to ensure sites are prepared for audits and management monitoring.
  • Implement Internal Controls: Promote and implement GSK's internal control framework (ICF) and embed key safety programs (e.g., permit to work, safe systems of work, contractor safety, working at heights).
  • Real Estate Due Diligence: Assist with due diligence for real estate transactions, advising on risk mitigation and safety controls during site selection and leasing.
  • Champion Risk Management: Lead the Department's risk management program, ensuring near-miss and incident reporting, and supporting incident investigations as needed.
  • Reporting & Escalation: Report into company EHS systems and councils, escalating issues when appropriate, and monitor service providers' compliance with agreed safety measures and KPIs.
  • Facilitate Safety Councils: Prepare and facilitate Safety Council meetings to drive performance and continuous improvement in safety and compliance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Risk Management, Environmental Occupational Safety & Health, or Workplace Safety.
  • 8 years of experience in Real Estate, Facilities Management, or Workplace Safety.
  • Broad knowledge of the Real Estate and Facility Management industry.
  • Strong expertise in risk management, regulatory compliance, and safety environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrated success in safety leadership and influencing roles and proven ability to manage teams, lead projects, and drive organizational change.
  • Strategic thinker with outstanding leadership skills, capable of long-term planning and motivating stakeholders.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed or chartered engineer in the disciplines of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • OSHA 30 hr, IOSH, NEBOSH Certification or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentational and persuasive skills to successfully interact with senior stakeholders internal and external to Workplace Real Estate and Facilities (WREF)  and strong ability to act as a motivator of change and influence without authority.
