1. Procurement Skills
Vendor Management:
Ability to source high-quality electrical (HT/LT) and mechanical components from reliable suppliers. This includes managing vendor relationships, evaluating supplier performance, and negotiating pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.Cost Management and Budgeting:
Expertise in managing procurement budgets, negotiating cost-effective deals, and performing cost-benefit analyses to ensure quality purchases while adhering to financial constraints.Contract Negotiation:
Knowledge of contractual terms related to the purchase of both electrical and mechanical equipmentcovering warranties, delivery commitments, after-sales service, and compliance with quality and safety standards.Market Research:
Capability to perform detailed market analysis and identify potential suppliers for mechanical (pumps, compressors, valves, motors, gearboxes) and electrical (transformers, cables, switchgear) components, ensuring best value and reliability.
2. Technical Knowledge Electrical (HT & LT) and Mechanical Systems
HT Electrical Equipment:
In-depth understanding of High Tension systems including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, overhead lines, and cable distribution networks.LT Electrical Equipment:
Knowledge of Low Tension systems such as low-voltage cables, control panels, MCCs, and lighting systems.Mechanical Equipment Knowledge:
Strong understanding of pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, couplings, mechanical seals, and valves. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical data sheets, and material specifications.Fabrication and Maintenance Components:
Knowledge of structural steel materials, fabrication consumables, fasteners, pipes, fittings, gaskets, and other MRO items used in plant maintenance and construction.Standards and Codes:
Familiarity with national and international codes and standardssuch as IS, ASME, ASTM, API, IEC, and IEEEensuring all procured equipment meets regulatory and safety norms.
3. Technical Skills in Procurement Software
ERP Systems:
Experience in SAP, Oracle, or equivalent ERP tools for tracking purchase requisitions, approvals, vendor performance, and inventory.E-Procurement Tools:
Proficiency in using e-sourcing platforms, tender management systems, and supplier databases to streamline procurement workflows and maintain transparency.
4. Experience and Industry Knowledge
Relevant Work Experience:
Hands-on experience in the procurement of both mechanical and electrical components for large industrial operations such as power plants, steel plants, or manufacturing units.Project Management:
Ability to manage end-to-end procurement for large-scale projects, ensuring that electrical and mechanical equipment is sourced on time, within budget, and as per project specifications.Supply Chain Management:
Knowledge of logistics, warehousing, and transportation for heavy and high-value mechanical and electrical equipment.
5. Negotiation and Communication Skills
Negotiation Skills:
Strong negotiation capability with suppliers and contractors to secure optimal commercial terms and maintain cost efficiency.Communication Skills:
Ability to convey detailed technical requirements to suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring clarity on specifications, documentation, and delivery expectations.Team Collaboration:
Coordination with Engineering, Maintenance, Projects, Finance, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure all procurement activities align with operational and technical goals.
6. Attention to Detail and Quality Assurance
Specification Verification:
Ensuring that all procured electrical and mechanical equipment adheres to approved technical specifications and datasheets.Quality Control:
Verification of material test certificates (MTCs), inspection reports, and performance test results before acceptance of mechanical and electrical goods.Vendor Audits:
Participation in vendor audits and inspections to ensure suppliers comply with quality, safety, and sustainability standards.
7. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making
Issue Resolution:
Ability to manage challenges such as delayed deliveries, non-conforming materials, or warranty claims through proactive communication and coordination.Decision-Making:
Making sound, data-backed decisions under pressure, especially when prioritizing urgent requirements or evaluating alternate makes/suppliers.
8. Budgeting and Financial Acumen
Cost Analysis:
Evaluation of total lifecycle cost of equipment—including purchase, logistics, installation, maintenance, and operation.Budget Control:
Ensuring all procurement activities stay within allocated budgets while optimizing for long-term reliability and performance.
