Job Summary
The School Counsellor supports the emotional, social, and academic well-being of students in Grades 1–8. The role involves providing counselling sessions, conducting developmental programs, guiding students through behavioural and learning concerns, and working closely with teachers and parents to create a safe and supportive school environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCounselling & Student Support
- Provide individual and group counselling to students dealing with emotional, behavioural, social, or academic concerns.
- Help students develop age-appropriate coping skills, social skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Identify students who need additional support and create action plans or referrals when necessary.
- Offer crisis intervention and conflict-resolution support when needed.
Assessment & Documentation
- Conduct basic screening to understand student needs (behaviour, learning difficulties, emotional issues).
- Maintain confidential and accurate counselling records, reports, and case notes.
- Observe students in classroom or playground settings to understand behavioural patterns.
Parent & Teacher Collaboration
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress, concerns, or recommendations in a sensitive and professional manner.
- Work with teachers to understand classroom challenges and provide strategies for behaviour management or student support.
- Conduct counselling-related workshops or orientation sessions for teachers and parents.
Wellness & Awareness Programs
- Plan and implement life-skills programs, socio-emotional learning (SEL) activities, and awareness campaigns for Grades 1–8.
- Organize sessions on topics such as bullying prevention, personal safety, emotional regulation, time management, and digital wellness.
- Support inclusion and positive school climate initiatives.
Policies & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to child protection policies, school safety guidelines, and confidentiality standards.
- Assist the School Child Protection Committee (if applicable) in reporting, documentation, and follow-up.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and professional development workshops.
- Stay updated on counselling techniques, child psychology, and SEL methodologies.
Qualifications & SkillsEducational Qualification
- Master's degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Child Psychology.
- Certification or specialized training in school counselling, child therapy, or special needs (preferred).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of child development and age-specific behavioural patterns.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and active listening skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Classroom observation, behavioural analysis, and intervention planning skills.
- Experience with SEL programs, life-skills modules, and workshops.
- Patience, emotional resilience, and a compassionate approach.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience working as a school counsellor or child psychologist (freshers with relevant training may be considered).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₹14, ₹40,000.00 per month
