Job Summary:

The Fixture and Tooling Manager will be responsible for leading the design validation, prove-out, and optimization of machining fixtures and tooling for precision metal cutting applications. This role demands a strong understanding of machining processes, cutting tool selection, GD&T, and cycle time optimization to ensure robust, efficient, and repeatable production outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead
    fixture prove-out activities
    for new projects and special-purpose machines (SPMs), ensuring dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and stability.
  • Evaluate and finalize
    tool selection
    for various operations such as turning, milling, drilling, honing, and grinding, based on material, geometry, and required surface finish.
  • Optimize
    cutting parameters (speed, feed, depth of cut)
    for best cycle time and tool life balance.
  • Work closely with design, assembly, and application teams to
    validate fixture design and clamping strategy
    through practical trials.
  • Conduct detailed
    GD&T study
    to ensure fixture and process compliance with drawing requirements.
  • Analyze and improve
    cycle time
    through cutting trials, tool path optimization, and parameter tuning.
  • Support process engineers in
    machine prove-out, run-off, and customer acceptance
    .
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fixture accuracy, tool wear, chatter, and dimensional variation.
  • Collaborate with tool manufacturers to identify new
    tooling technologies
    for productivity improvement.
  • Maintain process documentation including
    fixture validation reports, tool sheets, and cutting data sheets
    .
  • Ensure adherence to
    safety and quality standards
    during all prove-out activities.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong practical knowledge of
    fixture design validation and machining process development
    .
  • Proficiency in
    GD&T interpretation
    and its application in fixturing and inspection.
  • Hands-on expertise in
    cutting tool selection and optimization
    for ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • In-depth understanding of
    machining dynamics
    , cutting forces, and chip formation principles.
  • Experience with
    CNC machine tool prove-out
    (VMC/HMC/SPM).
  • Working knowledge of
    Cycle time estimation, tool life management, and process documentation
    .
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM tools for toolpath validation (NX, Mastercam, or similar).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in
    fixture and tooling development
    , preferably in
    precision machining / SPM / automation environment
    .
  • Proven track record in
    fixture prove-out and cutting parameter optimization
    .
