Role Summary: The GIS Developer will design, develop, implement, and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and tools. This role involves working with spatial data, developing software solutions to meet business needs, and supporting GIS projects by integrating various datasets and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. GIS Application Development o Design and develop GIS-based applications using programming languages like Python, JavaScript, or C#. o Develop and maintain web and mobile GIS applications using frameworks like Leaflet, OpenLayers, or Esri ArcGIS API for JavaScript. o Create custom tools and extensions for desktop GIS platforms (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS Pro).

  2. Data Integration and Management o Collect, process, and analyze spatial and non-spatial data from various sources. o Integrate GIS applications with databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle Spatial. o Manage, clean, and maintain large datasets, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.

  3. Spatial Analysis and Mapping o Conduct advanced spatial analysis to support decision-making. o Generate interactive maps and visualizations to represent geographic data effectively. o Develop geoprocessing workflows and automate tasks using scripting tools.

  4. System and Performance Optimization o Optimize GIS applications for performance, scalability, and usability. o Troubleshoot and resolve software bugs and technical issues.

  5. Collaboration and Communication o Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, analysts, and developers, to define system requirements. o Provide technical support and training to end-users on GIS applications and tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  1. Technical Skills:

o Proficiency in GIS software like Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar.

o Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, C++, or C#.

o Experience with web GIS frameworks (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox, Esri ArcGIS API).

o Knowledge of database management systems (PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle Spatial).

o Familiarity with spatial analysis techniques and geoprocessing tools.

  1. Additional Skills:

o Understanding of GIS standards (OGC) and formats (GeoJSON, shapefiles, KML).

o Experience with cloud-based GIS platforms (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Online, Google Earth Engine).

o Knowledge of server technologies like GeoServer or MapServer is a plus.
