Site Engineer

Site Engineer - Weir and Canal Construction

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Site Engineer to oversee and manage the technical aspects of our large-scale weir and canal construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all work is executed according to design specifications, quality standards, and schedule, with a strong emphasis on safety and environmental compliance within a challenging water resources environment.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Management & Supervision

Supervise and manage the day-to-day construction activities on site for weir structures, canal earthworks, lining, and related hydraulic infrastructure.

Interpret and implement project drawings, specifications, and scope of work for the site teams and subcontractors.

Ensure that work is performed in accordance with the approved construction program and project timeline, identifying and resolving potential delays.

Monitor resource allocation, including labor, materials, and equipment, to maximize efficiency.

Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.

Technical and Quality Control

Set out the site accurately using surveying instruments (e.g., total station, GPS) to establish control points, alignments, and levels for all civil works.

Manage the testing of construction materials, particularly concrete, earthwork fill, and aggregates, ensuring compliance with required standards.

Review and approve subcontractor/supplier Method Statements and Risk Assessments.

Keep detailed site records, including daily diaries, progress reports, testing results, and as-built drawings.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

​Ensure strict adherence to all project and statutory Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.

​Conduct regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and site safety audits.

​Proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards associated with deep excavations, working near water, heavy lifting, and earthmoving operations.

​Collaboration and Reporting

​Liaise effectively with the Project Manager, design team, consultants, contractors, and local authorities.

​Address and resolve technical issues and discrepancies that arise during construction.

​Prepare detailed weekly and monthly progress reports, summarizing physical progress, challenges, and forecasts.

​Manage the documentation required for progress payments and variation orders.

​Requirements

​Education and Experience

​Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field.

​Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience as a Site Engineer, with significant experience in heavy civil works, specifically weirs, barrages, dams, canals, or large-scale irrigation projects.

​A strong understanding of hydraulics and geotechnical principles related to water conveyance structures.

​Skills and Qualifications

​Proficiency in surveying and setting out using modern equipment.

​Expert knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations relevant to water infrastructure.

​Familiarity with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) for review and coordination.

​Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

​Proven ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a challenging site environment.

​Preferred Qualifications

​Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional certification.

​Experience with canal lining systems (e.g., concrete, geomembrane).
