Job Summary

The Associate Scientific Editor plays a critical role in managing the editorial workflow of medical journals. This position involves extracting and analyzing scientific information, coordinating with editorial boards, managing peer review and submissions, and ensuring the highest publishing standards. The role requires both scientific expertise and editorial acumen to contribute to the growth and reputation of the journals.

Key Responsibilities Scientific Data Extraction & Research

  • Extract authors scientific information from patents, clinical trials, publications, and author data.
  • Collect and maintain accurate information about authors and editorial board members.
  • Invite and onboard suitable experts to join editorial boards.
  • Maintain awareness of current research trends and publishing practices.

Journal Editorial Workflow

  • Assist in the daily management of journal operations, including manuscript handling.
  • Act as a handling editor: manage peer review, provide constructive feedback, and make publication decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure rapid and fair review processes to maintain journal efficiency and credibility.
  • Manage a high volume of submissions annually while achieving journal KPIs and performance metrics.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

  • Revenue Target: Monthly and quarterly goals linked to APCs, article acceptance, and special issues.
  • Abstract Target: Number of abstracts extracted, curated, and processed each month.
  • Quality Metrics: Peer review turnaround time, editorial decision accuracy, and author satisfaction.

Content Development & Engagement

  • Collaborate with the Editorial Board to commission and publish special issues and subject-specific collections.
  • Review and approve social media and marketing content to promote journals.
  • Support authors by guiding them on resubmission options to alternate journals if rejected from their first-choice journal.
  • Contribute ideas for innovative content, special features, and author engagement.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure that high-quality standards are maintained across all published content.
  • Support adherence to ethical publishing practices, including COPE guidelines and journal policies.
  • Maintain detailed records and reporting on editorial activities.
  • Carry out any tasks assigned by the manager on a permanent or temporary basis.
  • Promptly resolve pre- and post- publication issues raised by staff, EBMs and readers (e.g. authorship, scope, ethics and consent, misconduct)

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of medical, clinical, or life sciences research.
  • Excellent command of scientific writing and editing.
  • Familiarity with peer review processes and publishing workflows.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Proficiency with MS Office, manuscript tracking systems, and databases.
  • Ability to handle high-volume tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and proactive.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, or related fields.
  • Prior experience in scientific editing, medical publishing, or journal management strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of patent literature, clinical trial data, and publication ethics is an advantage.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Internship, Contractual / Temporary

Pay: ₹153, ₹465,476.23 per year
