BugleRock Capital is expanding its Quantitative Strategies division and is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our technology team.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role based in Mumbai.
The role is central to building and maintaining the data infrastructure powering our quantitative investment strategies across Indian markets.

You will design, implement, and optimize high-performance data pipelines that process massive volumes of NSE, BSE, and alternative datasets with sub-millisecond latency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Pipeline Development & Management

2. Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant data ingestion pipelines for real-time and batch processing of Indian market data (NSE, BSE, MCX, NCDEX), corporate announcements, and alternative datasets.

3. Implement efficient ETL/ELT processes to transform raw data into research-ready formats for quantitative analysts and portfolio managers.
4. Optimize data storage and retrieval systems to support intraday trading strategies during Indian market hours (9:15 AM – 3:30 PM IST).

2. Infrastructure & Architecture

• Architect and maintain distributed data processing systems using Apache Kafka, Spark, and Flink, optimized for Indian market data characteristics.
• Design time-series databases and data warehouses handling Indian corporate actions, splits, bonuses, and dividends.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and data quality frameworks ensuring 99.99% uptime during market hours.

3. Data Management & Governance

• Establish data governance policies aligned with
  SEBI

and
RBI

regulations and Indian data localization norms.
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to Indian financial data frameworks (SEBI, RBI, FEMA).
- Manage relationships with data vendors (Bloomberg India, Refinitiv, Capital IQ) and evaluate domestic alternative data sources.

4. Collaboration & Support

• Partner with quantitative researchers on Indian market anomalies, sector rotations, and event-driven strategies.
• Support risk teams with Indian market-specific metrics and regulatory reporting.
• Contribute to the firm's understanding of Indian market microstructure and data peculiarities.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably within Indian financial markets or fintech.
• Expert proficiency in
  Python

and/or
Scala

for data pipeline development.
- Strong experience with
Spark, Kafka, Airflow

, and distributed computing frameworks.
- Proficiency in
SQL

, with both relational and NoSQL systems.
- Experience with
AWS, Azure, or Tata Communications Cloud

, and containerization tools.
- Knowledge of time-series data optimization and Indian market data formats.

Indian Financial Markets Knowledge

• Deep understanding of
  NSE/BSE tick data, derivatives data, and mutual fund NAVs

.
- Familiarity with Indian market APIs (NSE Data, BSE Data, CDSL/NSDL).
- Exposure to Indian alternative data (GST data, digital payments, satellite imagery).
- Understanding of corporate actions, bonus/rights issues, and their data implications.

Professional Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field from premier Indian institutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills in high-stakes trading environments.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Deep understanding of Indian business culture and regulatory environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree from premier Indian institutions.
• Experience with
  machine learning pipelines

applied to Indian market data.
- Prior experience at hedge funds, mutual funds, investment banks, or FinTech's in India.
