Job Objective
The Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Head is required to provide highest standard of Professional, scientific, consultative/advisory services in organizational, administrative and educational matters which are relevant to the services offered by Laboratory. He/She shall maintain the overall responsibility for the operation and administration of the laboratory.
Job Responsibilities
I. Provides effective leadership of medical laboratory service, including budget planning and financial management, in accordance with institutional assignment of these responsibilities
II. Relate and function effectively with applicable accrediting and regulating agencies, appropriate administrative officials, and patient population served and providers of formal agreements when required.
III. Ensures that there are appropriate numbers of staff with the required education, training and competence to provide medical laboratory services that meets the needs and requirements of the patients during all hours of operation and also during emergency.
IV. Ensures that all the Quality protocols, procedures & policies are strictly followed by the laboratory staff
V. Implement a safe laboratory environment in compliance with good practices and applicable requirements.
VI. Ensure the provision of clinical advice with respect to the choice of examinations, use of the service and interpretation of examination results.
VII. Trains, educates and supervises junior doctors in Laboratory staff.
VIII. Select & monitor laboratory suppliers.
IX. Select referral laboratories and monitor the quality of their service.
X. Participates in continuing professional development activities by attending various national and international conferences & continued medical education programmes
XI. Plans. Directs and Participates in all Teaching and Research Activities of the department.
XII. Define, implement and monitor standards of performance and quality improvement of the medical laboratory services
XIII. Monitor all work performed in the laboratory to determine that clinically relevant information is being generated.
XIV. Address any complaint/grievance, request or suggestion from staff and/or users of laboratory services.
XV. Design and implement contingency plan to ensure that essential services are available during emergency situations or other conditions when laboratory services are limited or unavailable.
