Quality Head

The Quality Head will lead the entire Quality function for SMPL, ensuring that all LPDC and GDC castings meet stringent customer and industry standards. The role is responsible for Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Customer Quality, Systems, and Continuous Improvement across processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Management

Lead Quality Assurance & Quality Control for LPDC and GDC casting operations.

Develop & maintain Control Plans, PFMEA, Work Instructions.

Ensure compliance to ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 systems.

Monitor daily quality KPIs – PPM, in-process rejection, line issues, customer complaints.

1. Process Quality & Casting Expertise

Oversee quality in melting, die preparation, casting, fettling, machining.

Strong knowledge of aluminium alloys, porosity control, shrinkage, solidification, gating systems.

Drive process capability studies (Cp/Cpk) and validation for new tools and new parts.

Handle NDT (X-ray, DP, Pressure Test), dimensional inspection, and CMM reports.

1. Customer Quality & Interaction

Lead customer audits, PPAP submissions, APQP documentation.

Resolve customer concerns using RCA (5 Why, 8D, Ishikawa).

Maintain strong relationships with OEMs and Tier-1 customers.

1. Supplier Quality

Monitor incoming material quality (alloy, consumables, tooling).

Conduct supplier audits and ensure corrective actions where required.

1. Team Leadership

Lead a team of quality engineers, inspectors, and auditors.

Train the team on quality tools, inspection techniques, and foundry systems.

Build a "Zero-Defect Culture" across the plant.

1. Continuous Improvement

Reduce scrap, rework, and internal rejections using systematic problem-solving.

Identify and drive Kaizen / Poka-Yoke initiatives.

Implement data-driven decision-making through SPC and trend analysis.

Candidate Requirements

Education

BE/B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical or Metallurgy or Production.

Experience

Minimum 10–15 years in Aluminium Die Casting Quality (mandatory).

Hands-on experience in both LPDC & GDC casting processes.

Experience in automotive quality systems preferred.

Skills

Strong knowledge of casting metallurgy and defect analysis.

Hands-on with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, 8D.

Good communication and customer-handling skills.

Ability to lead a team and drive a quality culture.
