Principal Database Automation Engineer

Role purpose

Accelya is on an exciting journey to evacuate its on-premises data centres and migrate its application workloads to public and private cloud platforms on AWS.  To succeed will require us to learn new technologies, develop entirely new architectures and adopt new mindsets, and we need help.   

This role will provide the skills, the experience and the drive to not only succeed in our cloud migration, but also to leverage the benefits of these new platforms and technologies to make Accelya more agile, more secure and more robust.

It is hard to define the perfect candidate, but you will likely have experience of migrating multiple workloads from on-premises architectures to VMWare Cloud on AWS or directly to AWS.  You will also have experience of automating the deployment and management of database technologies including Oracle Database using tools like Terraform, Ansible or Cloud Formation.  Above all else you will be inquisitive, eager to learn and willing to experiment and learn from mistakes.

In this role you will develop new architectures and standards, help develop migration approaches and drive the automation of public and private cloud database deployment and operation at Accelya.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

• An understanding of AWS architectures, best practices and technologies
• A background in database administration and/or engineering, primarily Oracle Database
• Practical knowledge of automation and infrastructure-as-code principles and technologies.  E.g. Terraform or Cloud Formation and Ansible
• Exposure to VMWare Cloud on AWS or similar private cloud platforms will be beneficial, but experience with on-premises VMWare technologies will be sufficient
• Some exposure to API-first, cloud-friendly data protection technologies such as Rubrik, Veeam, Cohesity, Druva or similar will be advantageous
• A reasonable level of infrastructure coding experience, likely using Python
• A desire to build a team not an island, creating a safe space for new ideas and sharing knowledge
• A willingness to try new things, make mistakes and learn from them
• A passion to develop yourself and those around you
