Depending on the industry, tasks can range from operating heavy machinery like excavators to monitoring complex computer-controlled systems from a central control room.
  • Core responsibilities
  • Monitor and control machinery: Operate and oversee equipment, often using a centralized control unit, and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure proper functioning.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs: Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and calibration checks on equipment to keep it in good working order.
  • Troubleshoot issues: Identify and resolve problems that arise during operations to maintain production efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure safety and compliance: Adhere to all safety and environmental rules and regulations, and ensure the plant's operations are in compliance.
  • Manage operations: Oversee daily plant operations, which can include loading and unloading materials, managing inventory, and interpreting procedures.
  • Operate heavy machinery: In certain industries, this involves operating heavy equipment like excavators, bulldozers, cranes, and trenchers to move materials and perform site work.
  • Common skills and qualifications
  • Strong problem-solving skills Mechanical and technical aptitude Good computer proficiency for operating automated systems Spatial awareness (especially for roles involving heavy machinery) Ability to work with others and follow instructions
