Job Description: Piping Draftsman / Fabrication Draftsman

Position Overview

The Piping Draftsman cum Fabrication Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed technical

drawings and fabrication sketches for piping systems, structural supports, and related

mechanical components. This role bridges design and fabrication, ensuring accuracy, compliance

with codes, and smooth execution on-site.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Design

Prepare piping layouts, isometric drawings, and fabrication sketches using AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or equivalent software.

Develop GA drawings, spool drawings, and shop fabrication drawings for piping and structural assemblies.

Ensure drawings comply with project specifications, codes, and standards (ASTM, IS, ASME, AISI, IEC, etc.).

Fabrication Support

Create cutting plans, material take-offs (MTOs), and bill of quantities (BOQs) for fabrication.

Coordinate with fabrication teams to resolve drawing discrepancies and ensure manufacturability.

Provide welding symbols, dimensional tolerances, and fit-up details for shop floor execution.

Coordination & Documentation

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and site supervisors to align drawings with project requirements.

Revise and update drawings based on redline markups, site modifications, and client feedback.

Maintain proper documentation and version control of all drawings.

Quality & Compliance

Verify accuracy of drawings against design codes, piping specifications, and fabrication standards.

Support QA/QC teams with drawing-related clarifications during inspections and audits.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of piping systems, fabrication processes, and mechanical drafting.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, NavisWorks tools.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.

Familiarity with welding, cutting, and fabrication shop practices.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work under tight deadlines.

Good communication skills for coordination with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Diploma / ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or related discipline.

0-3 years of experience in piping and fabrication drafting (industrial projects preferred).

Knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, IS, IEC, etc.).

BOQs and MTOs for procurement and fabrication
