Position Overview

The School of Holistic Development (SHD) at MIT ADT University is dedicated to developing well-rounded, 'Winning Personalities' through an integral education approach that includes vital global competencies. We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Faculty member for the German Language to teach, design, and evaluate courses focused on German language and culture. This role is crucial for enabling students to pursue international academic and career opportunities in German-speaking countries, especially in technical and research fields, aligning with the holistic development goals of the SHD.

The successful candidate must possess expertise in contemporary German language pedagogy and a deep appreciation for the culture of the German-speaking world.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction and Curriculum Development

• Teaching: Deliver effective and dynamic German language courses (covering levels from A1 to B2, as per requirement) focusing on the four essential skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
• Cultural Integration: Embed knowledge of German culture, history, technology, and contemporary society into lessons to provide an enriching and contextually relevant learning experience.
• Methodology: Implement modern, communicative teaching methods, incorporating educational technologies, multimedia resources, and the university's Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Course Design: Develop, continuously review, and update course content, syllabi, and teaching materials to meet institutional standards and foster global competency.

2. Assessment, Mentoring, and Support

• Evaluation: Prepare, conduct, and grade various assessments, including comprehensive written examinations, oral proficiency interviews, and project-based assignments.
• Feedback: Provide personalized and constructive feedback to students to facilitate their mastery of the language and continuous improvement.
• Mentorship: Guide students in their language acquisition journey, advising them on resources, preparation for international proficiency exams (e.g., Goethe-Zertifikat), and career paths utilizing German.
• Holistic Development: Actively support the SHD's mission by integrating language instruction with the development of essential soft skills and personality traits.

3. Departmental and University Engagement

• Extracurriculars: Organize and lead German cultural activities, language clubs, and workshops to promote language learning and cultural exchange within the MIT ADT University community.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other faculty and departments to identify and implement opportunities for interdisciplinary German instruction (e.g., German for Engineers, German for Business).
• Administrative Tasks: Participate in departmental meetings, academic planning, and other administrative duties as assigned.
• Professional Growth: Engage in continuous professional development to stay abreast of the latest trends in German language teaching and educational technology.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Education: A Master's degree in German Language, German Literature, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a significant advantage.
• Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience teaching German at the university or tertiary level.
• Language Proficiency: Near-native or native-level proficiency in both spoken and written German (CEFR C1/C2 level equivalent). Excellent command of English is also required.
• Certification: Relevant language teaching certifications, such as a Goethe-Institute training certificate or equivalent, are highly desirable.

• Skills:

• Proven expertise in communicative language teaching (CLT) methodologies.

• Proficiency in utilizing educational technology and digital tools for language instruction.
• Strong organizational, public speaking, and intercultural communication skills.

Desirable Attributes

• Familiarity with the Indian higher education framework and student profile.
• Experience in curriculum design specifically targeting technical or professional German.
• Prior work, study, or research experience in a German-speaking country.
• Knowledge of value-based education principles.
