Job Description for MEP Draftsman (with BOQ & Costing Support)

Position: MEP Draftsman / CAD Technician Location:Trivandrum, Kerala Experience:3-6 years in MEP drafting (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting)

About the Role: We are looking for a skilled and precise MEP Draftsman to join our team in Trivandrum.This role goes beyond traditional drafting; we need someone who can transform initial concepts and mark-ups into detailed, accurate technical drawings and directly support the estimation team by generating quantities and assisting in cost calculations. The ideal candidate will be a key link between engineering design and project costing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Drafting & Drawing Management:

2. Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings for all MEP systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection) using AutoCAD and other relevant software.

3. Develop and produce layout drawings, schematics, detailed sections, and as-built drawings.
4. Coordinate MEP drawings with architectural and structural drawings to identify and resolve clashes.
5. Ensure all drawings adhere to company standards, project specifications, and relevant codes (e.g., IE rules, NBC, ASHRAE).
6. Revise and update drawings based on inputs from engineers, project managers, and site teams.

7. Maintain a systematic drawing register and ensure proper version control.

8. BOQ & Costing Support (Critical Function):

9. Quantity Take-off: Accurately measure and extract quantities of materials (pipes, ducts, cables, fixtures, equipment) from the finalized drawings.

10. BOQ Preparation: Assist the tendering and estimation team in preparing the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) by providing detailed material take-offs.
11. Costing Database: Help maintain a library of standard components and their associated costs for quick reference during estimations.
12. Drawing-Based Analysis: Identify potential cost-saving opportunities or value engineering options through smart drafting and material optimization.

13. Vendor Drawing Review: Review vendor/subcontractor drawings for compliance with project specs and accurate quantity assessment.

14. Required Software Proficiency:

15. Primary: AutoCAD (2D is essential, 3D is a strong advantage)

16. Highly Desirable: Revit MEP (Building Information Modeling)
17. Essential: MS Excel (for creating and managing quantity lists and basic cost sheets)

18. A Plus: Experience with any estimation software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam) or project management tools.

19. Required Skills & Qualifications:

20. Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or ITI in Drafting with significant relevant experience.

21. 3-6 years of proven experience as an MEP Draftsman, specifically in the construction or interior fit-out industry.
22. Must have hands-on experience in performing quantity take-offs from MEP drawings for BOQ preparation.
23. Strong understanding of MEP systems, components, and installation methodologies.
24. Keen eye for detail, accuracy, and a methodical approach to work.
25. Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.

26. Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with the engineering and project teams.
