Job Description Service Engineer

Position Overview: A Laser Machine Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of laser cutting, engraving, and other laser-based machinery used in various industries. The role demands expertise in laser technology, mechanical systems, and electrical components, ensuring that the machines operate efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Installation & Commissioning:

  2. Install new laser machines at customer locations according to manufacturer specifications.

  3. Perform initial setup, calibration, and testing to ensure proper functionality.

  4. Provide customer training on machine operation and safety procedures.

  5. Maintenance:

  6. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on laser machines.

  7. Clean and replace parts such as lenses, mirrors, and filters to ensure optimal performance.

  8. Update software/firmware as necessary for machine efficiency.

  9. Repair & Troubleshooting:

  10. Diagnose faults in mechanical, electrical, or software systems using diagnostic tools.

  11. Perform repairs on defective parts and systems to minimize machine downtime.

  12. Provide emergency on-site support for machine malfunctions and breakdowns.

  13. Technical Support & Customer Interaction:

  14. Offer technical support and guidance to customers regarding machine operation and maintenance.

  15. Work closely with the customer to understand their needs and resolve issues promptly.

  16. Maintain detailed service records and reports for each customer visit.

  17. Upgrades & Modifications:

  18. Assist in upgrading older laser machines to enhance performance.

  19. Modify and optimize machinery according to evolving customer requirements

  20. Documentation & Reporting:

  21. Maintain accurate records of installations, service activities, repairs, and customer interactions.

  22. Generate and submit detailed service reports after each visit or job completion.

  23. Provide feedback to management on recurring issues and potential improvements.

  24. Travel & On-Site Visits:

  25. Travel to customer sites as required for installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting.

  26. Be on-call for emergency services when necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in servicing and maintaining laser machines
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software systems related to laser technology.
  • Proficiency in reading technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to travel and work in different environments.
