Hardware Design Engineer

OverviewAphelion Energy is building next-generation electronics for EVs and energy storage – BMS, telematics, motor controllers, VCUs, and vehicle displays – with an AI-augmented engineering workflow.As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will own the design and validation of electronic hardware for:Battery Management Systems (BMS) – LV & HV (up to 1500V)Telematics / TCU for 2W/3W/4W and ESSMotor Controllers / Inverters & VCUsVehicle Instrument Clusters & DisplaysYou'll work end-to-end: concept, schematics, PCB design, proto bring-up, testing, and production support. You'll collaborate closely with embedded, mechanical, and manufacturing teams and use internal AI tools to accelerate design, documentation, and validation.________________________________________________________________________________________________Attitude and MindsetWe care as much abouthowyou work aswhatyou know.Ownership mindset – treats each design like "my product," not "my task."Systems thinking – thinks about the pack, vehicle, and cloud, not just a single PCB.Bias for practicality – knows when to chase perfection and when to ship a robust, testable V1.Documentation-friendly – keeps schematics, design notes, and change logs clean and searchable.Comfort with AI tools – willing to use AI assistants for research, boilerplate, checks, and test generation.Learning attitude – curious about new standards, components, and architectures; open to feedback.High ownership in testing – doesn't stop at "designed"; cares about what happens in the lab and in the field.High collaboration – works well with firmware, mechanical, operations, and customers.________________________________________________________________________________________________Must have skillsCore Electronics & DesignStrong fundamentals in analog & digital electronics , power supply design, and signal integrity.Hands-on experience with schematic capture & PCB design (Altium / KiCad / OrCAD or similar).Experience designing MCU-based boards (ARM, MSP, STM, NXP, etc.).Experience with SMPS / DC-DC converters , gate drivers, current/voltage sensing, and protection circuits.Automotive / EV DomainWorked on at least one of: BMS, TCU, motor controller, VCU, or vehicle display/cluster .Familiar with CAN / CAN FD , basic CAN tools, and preferably LIN / RS-485 .Understanding of EV powertrain basics (battery, motor, inverter, charger, low-voltage architecture).Reliability, Safety & CompliancePractical understanding of EMI/EMC -friendly design (filtering, grounding, layout practices).Experience with DFM / DFT and taking designs from proto to pilot to production.Basic awareness of automotive standards (ISO 7637, ISO 26262 exposure is a plus) and Indian EV norms (AIS-156/038, etc., at least at a high level).Lab & Debug SkillsProficient with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and electronic loads .Experience bringing up new boards: power-up sequencing, debug, rework, ECOs.Ability to read datasheets, application notes, and reference designs and adapt them intelligently.General2–6 years of relevant hardware design experience (flexible for exceptional profiles).Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment.________________________________________________________________________________________________Good to have skillsThese are not mandatory, but will make you stand out:Experience with HV BMS (>60 V systems), traction inverters, or on-board chargers .Exposure to functional safety concepts (ISO 26262, FMEA, FMEDA) or safety-critical design.Experience with thermal design for power electronics and battery packs (heat spreading, sinks, interfaces).Experience with vehicle clusters/displays – backlight driving, display interfaces, dimming, IP ratings.Familiarity with battery chemistry fundamentals (LFP, NMC, cycle life, SoC/SoH basics).Basic scripting using Python / MATLAB or similar for test automation and data analysis.Experience using AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, internal agents) for design checks, documentation, and test creation.Exposure to manufacturing – working with EMS partners, PCB fab constraints, and cost optimization.
