Job responsibilities

Installation and commissioning:

  • Assemble, measure, and bolt the mounting structures for solar PV panels.
  • Install solar modules on rooftops or other structures and connect them to the electrical system, including AC and DC wiring.
  • Work with inverters, charge controllers, and battery banks to convert and store solar energy.
  • Activate and test the PV system to ensure it is functioning correctly and safely.
  • Follow schematics, blueprints, and all relevant national and international electrical codes (e.g., IEC standards).

Maintenance and repair:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on solar energy systems to maximize efficiency and lifespan.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues, including AC/DC faults, and perform necessary repairs.
  • Conduct equipment checks, monitor inverters, and inspect panels, wiring, and mounting hardware.
  • Use testing equipment, such as digital clamp meters and insulation resistance testers, to identify and resolve problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.

Technical and administrative tasks:

  • Conduct site assessments to determine the optimal system placement and confirm site conditions.
  • Evaluate solar radiation and analyze shadow effects to ensure maximum energy production.
  • Prepare bills of materials and assist with project planning.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing inquiries, and explaining how the system operates.
  • Document and report on system performance, site conditions, and any service activities.

Safety and compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, especially when working at heights, with high voltage, and in various weather conditions.
  • Ensure that all installations and repairs are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry standards and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required.
  • Technical certifications in solar energy systems or related electrical fields are often preferred or required.
  • Previous experience in solar installation, electrical work, or a related field is necessary.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and solar energy technology is essential.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills and attention to detail are critical for success in the role.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors, often at heights, and be able to lift heavy equipment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation is often required for traveling to job sites.
