Position Overview

Rama University and Medical College, a premier private institution in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Chief Warden to oversee the residential facilities for its diverse student community. As a leading center for higher education in fields such as Medical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Nursing, Engineering, and Allied Healthcare, the university maintains state-of-the-art residential apartments equipped with comprehensive amenities, including safety and security measures, cafeteria services, medical support, and transportation. The Chief Warden will play a pivotal role in fostering a safe, supportive, and conducive living environment that aligns with the institution's commitment to holistic student development and academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Management: Lead a team of wardens and support staff in the administration of all on-campus residential facilities, ensuring optimal occupancy, maintenance, and resource allocation across hostels and apartments housing undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students from various faculties.

  • Policy Implementation and Compliance: Develop, enforce, and review hostel policies in accordance with university regulations, state guidelines, and national standards for student welfare, including health, safety, and anti-ragging protocols. Conduct regular audits to maintain compliance with fire safety, hygiene, and accessibility norms.

  • Student Welfare and Discipline: Address student grievances, mediate conflicts, and promote a culture of mutual respect and discipline. Collaborate with counseling services to support mental health initiatives and organize extracurricular activities to enhance community building.

  • Facility Oversight: Coordinate with maintenance, housekeeping, and security teams to ensure high standards of cleanliness, repairs, and 24/7 surveillance. Manage inventory of hostel resources, including bedding, utilities, and recreational equipment.

  • Crisis Management: Develop and execute emergency response plans for situations such as medical emergencies, natural disasters, or security incidents, in coordination with the university's medical college and hospital facilities.

  • Reporting and Collaboration: Prepare periodic reports on residential operations for senior administration. Liaise with academic departments to align hostel schedules with examination periods and faculty events, while fostering partnerships with external vendors for catering and transportation services.

  • Budget and Resource Planning: Assist in preparing annual budgets for residential services and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Background: Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Administration, or a related field from a recognized university. Preference for candidates with additional qualifications in student counseling or hospitality management.

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years in student residential services, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role at a higher education institution. Experience in managing hostels within a medical or technical university is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge Base: Strong understanding of Indian higher education regulations, including UGC guidelines on student hostels and NAAC accreditation standards. Familiarity with healthcare-related protocols given the institution's medical focus.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse student populations from multicultural backgrounds.

  • Proficiency in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and stakeholder communication.

  • Analytical mindset for data-driven decision-making, including the use of digital tools for inventory and reporting (e.g., ERP systems).

  • Commitment to inclusivity, ethical practices, and student-centered service delivery.

  • Fluency in English and Hindi; additional languages are advantageous.
