Position Summary

The Head of Project Management leads the overall project management function, overseeing the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of strategic programs across the organization. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

The incumbent will manage a team of project managers, establish best practices, and drive operational excellence, governance, and client satisfaction across all project portfolios. This position also serves as a senior liaison between clients, business stakeholders, and internal operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the Project Management Office (PMO), developing frameworks, tools, and processes to ensure consistent project delivery.
  • Collaborate with business leadership to define project management strategy, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and career development to a team of Project Managers and Coordinators.
  • Represent the function in executive meetings, strategic reviews, and business planning sessions.

Program & Client Management

  • Oversee a portfolio of strategic client and internal projects, serving as executive sponsor for key accounts.
  • Ensure alignment between client objectives and internal execution, driving cross-functional collaboration and accountability.
  • Lead communication, risk management, and issue resolution across diverse project teams.
  • Support business development and proposals by contributing to project scoping, resourcing, and timelines.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement best practices in project governance, change management, and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, HR, and other business units to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Track and report on project KPIs, timelines, and profitability to senior leadership.
  • Drive process optimization and continuous improvement to enhance delivery efficiency and client satisfaction.

Financial & Contractual Management

  • Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance across the portfolio.
  • Ensure accurate billing, cost recovery, and scope alignment with contractual terms.
  • Identify and escalate opportunities for scope expansion or new engagements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Management, Operations, or related discipline (Master's or PMP certification preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in project or program management, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
  • Strong background in stakeholder management, governance frameworks, and operational delivery.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic and operational leadership with the ability to set vision, inspire teams, and drive accountability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for executive-level engagement.
  • Deep understanding of project management methodologies, governance structures, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability management.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, Asana, or equivalent) and ERP/CRM systems.
  • Results-driven, adaptable, and capable of managing both strategic initiatives and tactical execution.
