We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Assembler Specialist to support, maintain, and enhance mission-critical applications running on IBM mainframe systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM High-Level Assembler (HLASM), strong debugging skills using mainframe tools, and experience working in high-performance, legacy systems environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain applications written in IBM Assembler (HLASM).
  • Analyze and debug complex Assembler code in batch and online (CICS) environments.
  • Work closely with COBOL and PL/I programs that interface with Assembler modules.
  • Perform performance tuning and optimization of critical Assembler routines.
  • Support system-level development tasks, including I/O processing, exit routines, and memory management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
  • Document code changes and create/update technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, Systems Programmers, and Application Developers.
  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery testing.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM Assembler (HLASM) on z/OS.
  • Strong knowledge of mainframe internals, including registers, macros, linkage conventions, and storage management.
  • Proficiency with debugging tools such as IBM Debug Tool, IPCS, or Abend-AID.
  • Familiarity with JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and other z/OS utilities.
  • Experience with CICS and/or MVS internals (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Working knowledge of COBOL, PL/I, or other mainframe languages is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze complex systems and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
