Who we are
About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe's infrastructure powers businesses all over the world. We process payments, run marketplaces, detect fraud, help entrepreneurs start an internet business from anywhere in the world, build world-class developer-friendly APIs, and more.

User Billing provides a central entry point for Stripe products to monetize in global markets. It is ultimately responsible for the systems, programs, and operations that generate Stripe's revenue and the economic models we have with our customers. This is accomplished through a sophisticated pricing onboarding tooling and workflow management, unified billing engine, and custom solutions for our largest enterprise users.

Our work is core to Stripe's business. Millions of customers look at us for a reliable and frictionless billing experience with Stripe.

Technical Operations roles are a dynamic and key component of Stripe's success. Focused on serving Stripe customers, we sit at the intersection of product, sales, engineering, finance, and operations, acting as the connective tissues that ensure internal and external users receive user billing results accurately and timely.

What you'll do

As a Technical Operations Manager for User Billing, you will lead a team of financial data analysts and technical operations specialists who are critical to Stripe's revenue generation and customer billing experience. You'll be responsible for building and managing a high-performing team that delivers accurate, timely billing insights to our key stakeholders across GTM, Accounting, Finance, and Tax.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop your team: Build and evolve a team of financial data analysts and technical operations specialists. Formalize role definitions, define charter and ownership boundaries, maintain accountability, and coach a high-functioning insights-driven operations team. You will also influence and direct the priorities of our delivery center partners in India and hold them accountable to performance measures.
  • Drive strategic data analysis and insights: Oversee the delivery of objective, critical insights that fulfill business needs across team stakeholders (GTM, Accounting, Finance, Tax). Ensure your team performs sophisticated data analysis, identifies trends, conducts research, and builds visualizations that drive business decisions.
  • Manage billing operations excellence: Lead ticket triaging operations to identify potential misbilling by analyzing transactional data and determining appropriate refunds or clawbacks. Establish quality standards, performance metrics, and SLAs to ensure accuracy and timeliness in all billing operations.
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting: Collaborate closely with Accounting and Finance & Strategy teams on month-end close processes, data validation, and incident investigation. Manage your team's support for financial audits, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of analysis.
  • Drive operational efficiencies: Coordinate cross-functional projects to identify and implement operational improvements that support stakeholders' ability to run more efficiently and effectively. Champion process improvement initiatives that increase the quality of billing data and reliability of operational systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering: Work closely with engineering teams to help define product solutions and prevent billing anomalies. Drive engineering improvements through routine audits, root cause analysis, and installation of relevant quality and reliability standards.
  • Foster knowledge sharing and growth: Facilitate internal knowledge sharing sessions to strengthen team capabilities. Create a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within your team.
  • Scale operations globally: Ensure seamless collaboration between US and India-based team members. Build processes and systems that scale with Stripe's rapid growth while maintaining operational excellence.
Who you are

You're someone who has a history of achieving outcomes through others and experiences a sense of gratification when your team members grow and succeed. You're passionate about solving complex business problems at the intersection of data, finance, and operations, and you're excited about making a direct impact on Stripe's revenue operations.

You're a creative problem solver who thrives on putting order to chaos and can maintain objectivity during critical situations. You have the ability to frame the right tradeoffs between aspirational goals and operational realities. Most of all, you're someone who inspires and motivates others to grow and have a positive impact on the team and Stripe.

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements
  • 8-10 years of industry experience in software engineering, with at least 2+ years of people management experience, ideally managing data analysts, technical operations specialists, or similar cross-functional roles

  • Strong data integrity expertise: Experience with data quality assessment, validation processes, and ensuring accuracy in financial data at scale
  • Finance/Accounting domain knowledge: Understanding of accounting principles, revenue recognition, billing operations, or financial auditing processes
  • Cross-functional leadership: Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate and build relationships with technical teams (engineering), business teams (sales, product), and finance teams (accounting, FP&A, tax)
  • Analytical problem-solving: Strong analytical skills to investigate root causes, identify trends in complex datasets, and make data-driven decisions
  • Project and program management: Ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple cross-functional projects, and make necessary tradeoffs while maintaining quality standards
