An admissions officer evaluates applications, interviews prospective students, and makes admissions decisions based on an institution's criteria. They also serve as a point of contact to guide students and families through the application process, coordinate admissions events, and manage recruitment efforts. Core responsibilities

  • Application review and evaluation: Assess applications, which includes reviewing transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation.
  • Admissions decisions: Determine which candidates meet the requirements and make admissions decisions.
  • Prospective student guidance: Provide information about programs and the admissions process, answering questions from students, parents, and counselors.
  • Recruitment and outreach: Participate in recruitment events like information sessions, campus tours, and educational fairs to promote the institution.
  • Application management: Manage the status of applications and communicate with applicants about their status.
  • Data and record management: Maintain accurate records of prospective students and update databases with new information.
  • Collaboration: Work with other departments, such as financial aid and academic advising, to support the enrollment process.

Additional duties

  • Administrative tasks: Handle paperwork, schedule appointments, and perform general administrative support.
  • Financial coordination: Assist with processing initial payments for tuition and room and board.
  • Travel: May travel to meet with prospective students, schools, and other stakeholders.
