About The Role

We're looking for an experienced full-stack programmer to function as a technical lead for our product engineering team.

You should have experience in building enterprise grade SaaS products, and have been involved in the full lifecycle from design, development, deployment, maintenance and scalability.

We have a sizable product with codebases that we've evolved and scaled over the course of 10+ years. AI has always been at the heart of our product, and we're embracing the new wave of advancements in the field to evolve the product further. This is in addition to our already long wishlist of features and requests from our users. At the same time, we're also working on generally enhancing our engineering practices, as well as working to revamp some of our legacy modules.

For example, we're looking to incorporate and evangelize backend unit/integration testing in the team, revamping some of our old but functioning AngularJS 1.x and jQuery modules into Angular and TypeScript, and so on. We need help leading efforts on all these fronts. You would be working closely with the product manager and a team of around 5 developers to keep the product evolving, and with engineering leadership to help solidify our engineering foundations.

Within the first month, you wil

● Get to know your team members, start learning about the product and the codebase

● Be set up to do local development

● Be assigned your first ticket, figure out how to implement it and deplo to production

Within 3 months, you will:

● Start taking ownership of larger projects - writing design documents proposing implementation approaches, describing tradeoffs, getting feedback and sign-off

● Plan out tickets, lead their delivery with your team of engineers over agile sprints

● Be reviewing code from your team members, while pushing out code yourself

● Start becoming the person your team members will turn to for direction and mentorship

Within 6 months, you will:

● Be fully ramped up and owning key areas of the product

● Be closely involved with the product team, planning out new projects in the roadmap, while being aware of technical debt

● Be coordinating closely with leadership to improve engineering practices and identify broad-impact items

● Be responsible for the career growth of your team members

Requirement

● 6+ years of experience in building and scaling applications, with at least 2 years guiding teams or owning technical decisions.

● Familiarity with observability tools for monitoring, logging, and debugging production systems.

● Passionate about engineering best practices, including clean code, automated testing, and scalable architectures.

● Must have experience in writing code across the stack - backend and frontend, and have a good understanding of databases and infrastructure.

● Must care about the craft of engineering but know how to balance it with the need to ship things and move the business forward.

● Must value good documentation and can write both functional and technical documentation

● Must communicate well with non-technical stakeholders and represent the engineering perspective.

● Must have a successful track record in mentoring junior engineers.

● Must have experience in agile processes and can plan and manage work across sprints.

● Preference will be given to those who have a high overlap with our tech stack specified below - particularly Django + Angular
