OverviewJoin the Azure Core Economics team to explore your interests and make a meaningful impact. This team includes economists, data scientists, and software engineers within Azure Engineering who address a wide range of data-intensive and distributed computing challenges related to cloud economics. These challenges are critical to Microsoft's operations and include areas such as pricing optimization, demand forecasting, capacity planning, fraud detection, and virtual machine bin packing.
The team works closely with other groups across Microsoft to solve these complex problems. Our software engineering team in India contributes to the development of new software products, enhancements, and research incubations that align with the team's mission. As a Software Engineer II, you will help build software solutions that use large-scale data to improve the Azure platform and its customer experience. This role offers exposure to applied economics, engineering, and data science, and provides opportunities to deepen your understanding of cloud economics while developing scalable engineering solutions.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ year(s) of experience working within a cloud environment such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
- OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ year(s) of experience leveraging relational database and SQL skills, with working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytic tools and environments (such as Cosmos DB, Apache Beam, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, MapReduce, and Flume)
- 1+ year(s)of experience applying software development skills to economics-oriented and data-intensive products and problems
- 1 + year(s) of experience working within a cloud environment such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform, including 1+ years of experience deploying statistical or machine learning models at scale
Responsibilities
- Works with appropriate internal stakeholders (e.g., economists, data scientists, engineers, researchers, program managers, and business planners) to understand and determine customer/user requirements for a set of features and executes project plans, release plans, and work items
- Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature that is extensible and maintainable with minimal supervision
- Applies best practices to build code based on well-established methods and secure design principles while also applying best practices for new code development and formal validation of security invariants
- Contributes to identifying dependencies, and incorporates them into the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight
- Creates a clear test strategy that ensures solution quality and prevents regressions from being introduced into existing code with minimal supervision
- Contributes to efforts to classify and analyze data with little oversight on a range of metrics and helps to create outputs (such as notifications and dashboards) that improve monitoring
- Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into being informed of current developments that will improve the performance of products
