Centre for Law & Critical Emerging Technologies (CLET)

The Centre addresses one of the most urgent intellectual and policy challenges of our time, how legal systems can adapt to rapid technological change while advancing innovation and equity. Its mission is to foster critical and interdisciplinary inquiry into the evolving relationship between law, intellectual property, and frontier technologies, with a particular focus on Indian and Asian contexts and comparative global perspectives. CLET's research examines how legal and policy frameworks respond to technological transformation across domains such as standards and competition law, artificial intelligence, data governance, digital sovereignty, and creative economies. Through original research, policy engagement, and multi-stakeholder dialogue, the Centre provides a platform for reflection and reform on the legal and economic implications of innovation, access, and equity in the emerging technology landscape.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Undertake high-quality research on Indian, Asian, and international legal and policy frameworks related to innovation, technology, and governance.
- Provide research and drafting assistance for policy engagement, legislative review, and institutional submissions in key areas of emerging technology and IP reform.
- Conceptualize, develop, and execute independent research projects within the Centre's mandate, contributing to ASIA's wider academic and policy outputs.
- Prepare research reports, policy briefs, discussion papers, and presentations for dissemination among stakeholders in academia, industry, and government.
- Coordinate and participate in consultations, roundtables, and stakeholder dialogues to inform and advance research and policy initiatives.
- Assist in capacity-building activities, including workshops, teaching modules, or collaborative projects, under the Centre's ongoing programmes.
Eligibility Criteria
- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in law.
- 1-2 years of demonstrable research or policy experience in technology law, or IP (a master's degree will count as one year of work experience).
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills, with an ability to synthesise complex interdisciplinary issues.
- Familiarity with contemporary debates on technology governance, innovation policy, or digital regulation will be an advantage.
