Job description
To lead the Process Safety section and drive effective implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) to meet the CCPS, OSHA, and other identified international/national standard requirements. This role ensures compliance with the company's policies and fosters a culture of safety excellence, supporting the goal of zero harm, leaks, spills, and unplanned emissions.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's in chemical engineering/technology.
- 8-12 years of experience in high-hazard industries, including experience in Process Safety/operation/Technology Services.
- Hands-on experience in HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, Boe Tie and other similar methodologies.
- Minimum 5 years in a similar field.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Key Skills
A lead of the Process Safety is responsible for preventing and mitigating Process Safety incidents by establishing formal methods to review manufacturing operations, processes, plants, and projects. This includes identifying hazards, assessing risks, developing mitigation strategies, and investigating incidents. They also ensure compliance with corporate PSM standards and procedures and collaborate with various teams to implement adequate safety measures.
Core Responsibilities:
- Leading Process Safety Management (PSM) activities:
This includes hazard identification, risk assessment, and the development and implementation of
PSM programs.
- Ensuring compliance with standards and regulations:
This involves conducting safety audits, technical analyses, and ensuring adherence to the
International and National Standard/regulatory requirements.
- Developing and implementing safety procedures:
This includes creating procedures for plant commissioning, operation, and maintenance, as well as emergency response planning.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams:
Working with engineering, operations, and other departments to identify potential hazards and
develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Providing expert guidance:
Offering guidance and mentorship to junior team members on Process Safety best practices.
- Incident investigation and analysis:
Leading or participating in incident investigations, analysing root causes, and implementing
corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Promoting a strong safety culture:
Fostering a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.
- Assist the Head-HSEF in other departmental activities as and when needed.
What is the expectation from this position
- Develop Process Safety policies, procedures, and strategies to strengthen the Process Safety culture and achieve management goals.
- To map all applicable Process Safety statutory and other standard compliance requirements concerning business operations, prepare a compliance calendar, and ensure that all compliance and statutory correspondence is initiated as per the specified schedule.
- Promoting employee engagement and participation in Process Safety initiatives and fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- To integrate and present all Process Safety management practices, requirements and outcomes in the monthly management review meeting.
- To develop a plan, a module for imparting job-specific Process Safety training to employees and contract workers at all levels as per schedule.
- Develop a roadmap and project charter for the stage-wise implementation of PSM elements to meet the committed timeline.
- Coordinate all departments for Responsible Care (ICC) improvement initiatives relevant to the Process Safety, schedule and execute audits and training as per schedule.
- Lead and support sustainability projects related to process safety, maintaining a detailed project management plan that includes a project schedule, progress on deliverables, identification of roadblocks, and the need to complete deliverables on time.
- Assist the Head-HSEF in other need-based HSEF-related activities from time to time
- Lead deployment of PSM programs across sites with support from the Head-HSEF/Head-CTS.
- Guide and influence site teams in adopting and implementing accepted national and international Process Safety standards.
- Plan and drive continuous improvement initiatives in Process Safety performance.
- Manage high-risk processes and provide expert support to manufacturing teams.
- Build capability through training and hands-on support in PSM practices.
- Track and analyse leading and lagging indicators, and drive improvements.
- Support assurance programs and audits; escalate critical issues to leadership.
- Ensure compliance in new projects and products related to the applicable area of the Process Safety.
- Drive the closure of high-risk actions identified in process safety audits/assessments.
- Facilitate incident investigations and implement learnings across units.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure alignment with global standards.
- Promote safety culture transformation and support cross-functional initiatives.
- Conducting HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis), and QRA (Quantitative Risk Assessment)..
- Overseeing the management of the change process for process modifications.
- Participating in the development of emergency response plans and procedures.
- Tracking and trending Process Safety performance indicators.
- Staying up-to-date on relevant regulations and industry best practices.
