About the AI Team and the Role

As an LLM Research Intern–Model Engineering and Integration at Origin Medical Research Lab, you'll work alongside research engineers, AI scientists, clinicians, and leading medical institutions to design, fine-tune, and integrate large language models (LLMs) that address real challenges in clinical documentation, medical Q&A, and information retrieval. You'll also contribute to developing next-generation deep learning algorithms for the automated assessment of fetal ultrasound images. This internship offers a rare, hands-on research experience where you'll get to explore new ideas, experiment with cutting-edge AI models, and push the boundaries of what's possible in healthcare. Throughout the program, you'll be mentored by industry experts who will help you translate your research into real-world, impactful healthcare solutions.

What will you do?

• LLM fine-tuning and evaluation:

Fine-tune and evaluate large language models (e.g., GPT, Llama, Claude) for domain-specific healthcare tasks using supervised datasets and prompt engineering techniques.
- Prompt and benchmark development:

Create and maintain structured prompt templates, evaluation datasets, and comprehensive model benchmarking frameworks.
- LLM-based retrieval integration:

Develop and integrate LLM-driven search solutions (e.g., RAG, semantic retrieval) with medical data repositories to enable intelligent information access.
- Research communication:

Present work through portfolio-ready demos, well-documented code, and GitHub repositories to ensure clarity, reproducibility, and impact.

Who are we looking for?

• Passionate about advancing the field of AI by developing intelligent language models that drive real-world healthcare and research innovation.
• Over 1 year of hands-on experience working with large language models (LLMs), the Transformers ecosystem, and related academic or industry projects.
• Skilled in fine-tuning, data curation and preprocessing, prompt engineering, and designing evaluation pipelines for language models.
• Proficient in Python, with practical experience using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, Hugging Face, and vector search technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to produce reproducible and well-documented work through GitHub repositories, research notebooks, hackathon demos, or deployable portfolio projects.
• An analytical and curious problem-solver with a strong learning mindset, collaborative spirit, and clear communication skills in both written and spoken English.
• Previous experience in fast-paced research environments or startups is a plus.
