Job Description:

An RMP Fitter/Operator's role is to install, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems, often in a specific industry like phosphate production or shipbuilding. They work with blueprints, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safety and quality standards are met. Their tasks include fitting components, welding, cutting materials, and performing routine maintenance and inspections. 

Key Responsibilities of an RMP Fitter/Operator:
  • Installation and Assembly: Assembling and fitting mechanical parts and systems according to technical drawings and specifications. 
     
  • Maintenance and Repair: Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing malfunctioning equipment or systems. 
     
  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and diagnosing faults in machinery and systems using diagnostic tools. 
     
  • Welding and Cutting: Using welding equipment (MIG, TIG, etc.) and cutting tools to shape and join materials. 
     
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpreting blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical specifications. 
     
  • Quality Control: Ensuring completed assemblies meet quality standards and specifications. 
     
  • Safety Compliance: Following safety protocols and adhering to company policies and regulations. 
     
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs. 
     
  • Coordination: Collaborating with other team members, engineers, and project managers. 
     


Examples of Industries:

  • RM Phosphates:
    Fitters may be involved in installing and maintaining equipment used in phosphate production, such as pumps, piping systems, and electrical systems. 


  • Shipbuilding:
    Shipfitters fabricate and assemble metal components for ships, including welding, cutting, and fitting metal parts. 


  • Manufacturing:
    Fitters may work in various manufacturing settings, assembling and maintaining machinery and equipment. 


  • Other Industries:
    Fitters may also be found in industries like power generation, construction, and oil and gas, where they maintain and repair various mechanical and electrical systems.
