Job Description:

A Senior Fitter (RMP), also sometimes referred to as a Senior Mechanical Fitter or simply a Senior Fitter, is a skilled tradesperson specializing in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, particularly in the context of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) or sponge iron plants. They work with machinery, engine parts, and other equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and resolving any issues that may arise. 

Key Responsibilities of a Senior Fitter (RMP):

  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings:
    Senior Fitters analyze blueprints and other technical documentation to understand the specifications of mechanical components and systems. 


  • Fabricating and assembling components:
    They cut, shape, and fit metal parts using various hand and machine tools to build or repair machinery. 


  • Performing welding and other joining operations:
    They utilize welding equipment and other methods to fuse components together, ensuring strong and reliable connections. 


  • Inspecting and testing:
    Senior Fitters carefully examine fabricated components and completed assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. 


  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues:
    They troubleshoot problems with machinery and equipment, identifying the root cause and implementing effective repair solutions. 


  • Overhauling and maintaining equipment:
    They perform preventative maintenance tasks and overhaul components to ensure optimal performance and prevent future failures. 


  • Supervising and mentoring:
    In some cases, Senior Fitters may also be responsible for leading and guiding other fitters, ensuring the team's work aligns with project requirements. 


  • Ensuring safety:
    They adhere to safety regulations and procedures when working with tools, equipment, and hazardous materials. 


  • Working in various environments:
    Senior Fitters may work in different environments, including client work sites, assembly premises, and hazardous areas, requiring adaptability and awareness of potential risks. 



Specific tasks related to DRI/sponge iron plants:
  • Working with mechanical equipment like presses, rolling mills, and gearboxes, ensuring proper fitment and assembly. 
     
  • Performing maintenance and repairs on machinery, utilities, and plant systems within the DRI/sponge iron plant. 
     
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues related to misalignment, overload, wear, or breakage in the plant's machinery. 
     
  • May specialize in specific types of machines or equipment, such as crankshafts, gear mechanisms, or layshafts. 
     


In essence, a Senior Fitter (RMP) is a highly skilled tradesperson who plays a vital role in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of various industries, especially those involving DRI or sponge iron production.
