Key responsibilities

  • Hazard prevention: Prevent electrical accidents by identifying and correcting hazards in electrical systems, machinery, and work practices.
  • Installation and maintenance: Ensure the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Inspections and audits: Conduct periodic inspections of electrical installations (at least annually) to identify potential risks and ensure compliance.
  • Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of all tests performed, inspections, and recommendations made, and make these available to inspectors when required.
  • Policy and procedure development: Create and update safety policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for electrical work.
  • Safety training: Train employees on electrical safety procedures, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and how to recognize and avoid hazards.
  • Incident investigation: Investigate any accidents or near-misses to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Compliance monitoring: Monitor and ensure that the organization complies with all local, state, and federal safety laws and regulations, such as those from OSHA.
  • Safety equipment management: Ensure that all safety-related equipment is in good working order and is used correctly.
