Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Design Checking Specialist to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and quality of engineering drawings, CAD models, and documentation. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining compliance with internal standards, ASME and military drawing standards, and contractual requirements. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, drafting, and project management teams to uphold technical excellence across deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and verify engineering CAD models, 2D/3D drawings, and technical documentation for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
- Interpret and apply drawing standard requirements (e.g., ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.2, MIL-STD and assess the quality and completeness of backup technical data.
- Identify discrepancies or errors in dimensions, specifications, tolerance stacks, and calculations; recommend corrective actions and guide teams in resolution.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters to clarify design intent and ensure uniform application of standards and procedures.
- Exercise authority to approve or reject technical documentation based on quality, standards compliance, and design correctness.
- Support the development, update, and enforcement of internal drawing/documentation standards and engineering SOPs.
- Participate in design review and quality assurance meetings, presenting findings and contributing technical insights.
- Maintain clear and structured documentation of all checks, feedback, and approvals for audit and traceability purposes.
- Stay current with evolving engineering and manufacturing technologies, standards, and practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical design principles, CAD systems, and engineering documentation standards.
- Expertise in ASME Y14.5 (GD&T), ASME Y14.2, Y14.24, Y14.35, Y14.41, and MIL-STD-31000.
- Proven experience in tolerance stack analysis and its relationship with GD&T.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and practical design-for-manufacturing concepts.
- Ability to clearly communicate feedback, technical concepts, and changes to multidisciplinary teams.
- High attention to detail, with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and judgment in reviewing conflicting technical inputs or requirements.
- Working knowledge of CADD tools (CREO preferred); recent hands-on experience in model and drawing review required.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while coordinating with broader project teams.
- Capable of enforcing compliance with internal SOPs and quality standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in defence or aerospace sector with exposure to military and commercial drawing standards.
- Capability to assist in technical report writing and oral presentations to customers and leadership.
- Prior experience supporting build events (prototype and production).
- Knowledge of company-specific (e.g., BAE Systems) model and drawing SOPs.
Required Experience:
- Minimum: 8 years of design experience, including at least 2–4 years in a dedicated design checking role; or 5 years as a design engineer and 2 years as a checker.
- CAD Experience: 3D CAD modelling and drafting experience is mandatory.
- Software Proficiency: CREO (recent experience preferred), Windchill or similar PLM tools.
Preferred Experience:
- Design experience in a defence or high-precision engineering environment.
- Working knowledge of tolerance analysis, model-based definition (MBD), and digital thread practices.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required technical competencies
