Job Description:

Requirement: Knowledge of legal matters; preference for qualified lawyers.

A legal assistant supports attorneys by performing various tasks, including drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, managing case files and evidence, communicating with clients, scheduling appointments, handling administrative duties like calendars and billing, and assisting with trial preparation and filings. Key qualifications often include an associate's or bachelor's degree, strong organizational and communication skills, and attention to detail. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Management:
    Drafting, proofreading, and formatting legal documents, correspondence, and motions. 


  • Case & Evidence Management:
    Organizing and maintaining case files, collecting and examining evidence, and summarizing transcripts. 


  • Legal Research:
    Researching laws, regulations, statutes, and case law to assist attorneys. 


  • Administrative Support:
    Managing attorney calendars, scheduling meetings and depositions, and handling phone calls and emails. 


  • Client Communication:
    Communicating with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel to provide updates and gather information. 


  • Trial Support:
    Assisting with trial preparation, organizing exhibits, and preparing documents for filing with courts and agencies. 


  • Billing & Finance:
    Managing client billing, invoicing, and other financial record-keeping tasks.

  • Organizational Skills: Essential for managing multiple cases and tasks effectively. 
     
  • Communication Skills: Both written and verbal, for communicating with attorneys, clients, and courts. 
     
  • Legal Research Skills: The ability to find and interpret relevant legal information. 
     
  • Confidentiality & Ethics: Maintaining discretion and adhering to legal ethical standards. 
     
  • Computer Proficiency: Skills in word processing, legal software, and electronic filing systems. 
     


Qualifications 
  • Education: A high school diploma is required, with an associate's or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or a related field being preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a law firm or legal department is beneficial.
