Job Title: EMT Ambulance Driver

Role & responsibilities :

-Operating the ambulance: Drive the emergency vehicle to pickup locations and medical facilities quickly and safely. This requires excellent defensive driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws, including the special exemptions for emergency vehicles.

-Emergency response: Respond to emergency calls, coordinating with dispatch and other first responders like police and fire departments. Drivers must be able to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.

-Patient care assistance:

Help move patients onto a stretcher or gurney and load them into the ambulance. This can be physically demanding.

Provide basic first aid and life support as needed, such as administering oxygen or performing CPR.

Assist EMTs and paramedics with on-board patient care during transport.

-Vehicle and equipment maintenance:

Perform pre-shift inspections to ensure the ambulance is in working order, checking fuel, fluids, and tires.

Verify that all medical equipment and supplies are fully stocked and functional.

Clean and sanitize the ambulance and equipment after each use to meet health and safety standards.

Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate logs of transport activities, mileage, and patient information.

-Skills and qualifications

Certifications:

-Driver's license: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is mandatory. Some states may also require a special Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification.

Medical training: Most employers require or prefer CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications. Many ambulance drivers are also certified EMTs.

-Driving abilities: Strong driving skills and knowledge of traffic regulations are essential, as are familiarity with GPS and mapping technology.

-Physical fitness: The job requires physical strength and stamina for lifting and moving patients and equipment.

-Soft skills: Successful drivers need excellent communication skills to coordinate with medical staff and comfort patients. They must also be able to think and make decisions quickly under pressure.

-Work environment and schedule:

Ambulance drivers work in a fast-paced, responding to a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations.
