Key Responsibilities
Patient Care:
- Provide direct patient care before, during, and after ophthalmic procedures, ensuring a patient-centred approach.
- Prepare patients for examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgeries, including assisting with positioning, draping, and comfort.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, symptoms, and overall condition, reporting any abnormalities to the physician promptly.
Assisting in Procedures:
- Assist ophthalmologists during eye examinations, minor surgical procedures, and laser treatments.
- Prepare the procedure room, including setting up sterile instruments, drapes, and other necessary equipment.
- Ensure the maintenance of sterile fields and adherence to infection control protocols.
Patient Education:
- Provide detailed education to patients and their families regarding eye care, pre- and post-operative instructions, medication administration, and follow-up care.
- Demonstrate the correct usage of eye drops, eye patches, or any other prescribed home care practices.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nursing notes, medication administration, and patient progress.
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Infection Control and Safety:
- Adhere to strict infection control guidelines, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and cleaning of instruments and equipment.
- Conduct routine checks of the nursing station, procedure areas, and equipment to ensure safety and compliance with health standards.
Emergency Care:
- Respond promptly to emergencies such as sudden vision loss, allergic reactions, or cardiac arrest, providing immediate care and coordinating with the medical team as per hospital protocols.
- Assist in the stabilization and transfer of patients requiring emergency intervention.
