Role Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Area (Operations) Manager to lead our last-mile delivery sites & business with Amazon. In this unique role, AOM will be responsible for managing all aspects of end-to-end business operations. This includes managing people, processes, and performance to achieve and exceed key operational metrics such as safety, quality, productivity, cost, and customer experience. AOM will drive continuous improvement initiatives, foster a high-performance culture, and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to optimize delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction. While the site itself is owned by Delpack and business & SOPs are followed as per Amazon, thus, AOM primary focus will be on optimizing the efficiency, safety, and productivity of our delivery workforce and assets.

Qualifications

  1. Work-experience of 8-9+ Yrs in e-commerce (Amazon / Flipkart) last-mile operations management. Sound understanding of Lean Operations principles and practices.

  2. Demonstrated strong capability in local hiring, recruitment, and workforce management, particularly in high- volume and fluctuating environments.

  3. Proven experience in managing a fleet of vehicles and a large team of delivery associates/riders and supervisors.

  4. Strong understanding of last-mile delivery challenges, routing optimization, and logistics technology.

  5. Experience working in a highly metrics-driven environment.

  6. Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations

  7. Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

  8. Liaise and negotiate with stakeholders.

  9. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  10. Excellent attention to detail.

  11. Ability to multitask effectively.

  12. Ability to frame responses to email.

  13. Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

Job Requirements

1. Local Hiring & Workforce Management:

· Proactively manage and execute the end-to-end local hiring process for riders and supervisors, adapting quickly to fluctuating business demands and seasonal peaks.

· Develop and maintain strong local networks to source high-quality candidates efficiently.

· Implement effective strategies for recruitment, screening, interviewing, and onboarding, ensuring a seamless experience for new hires.

· Forecast staffing needs accurately and develop contingency plans to address unexpected demand changes.

· Ensure all hiring practices comply with local labor laws and Amazon's internal policies.

· Drive initiatives to improve rider and supervisor retention through engagement, recognition, and development programs.

  1. Operational Excellence & Performance Optimization:

· Ensure seamless end-to-end station operations, including efficient cash and shipment management.

· Drive and monitor zero shipment breaches within defined turnaround times (TAT) across the designated region.

· Monitor, analyze, and improve key delivery performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

· Directly responsible for reducing per-shipment costs and increasing productivity by ensuring adherence to Promise Delivery Dates (PDD).

· Leverage data to improve performance metrics and identify opportunities to enhance customer experience.

· Maintain and analyze operational metrics to assess performance and implement data-driven improvements.

· Monitor quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs, and overall efficiency.

· Meet established targets for cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness.

· Proactively resolve any operational problems or customer complaints that arise.

· Frame and maintain high work standards and continuously review and refine existing processes.

  1. Team Leadership & Development:

· Lead, manage, and develop delivery associates and support staff, cultivating a positive and productive team environment.

· Supervise, coach, and train the station workforce to maximize performance.

· Act as a people manager, coordinating with HR to address Delivery Associate issues and grievances.

· Foster a high-performance culture, promoting teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

· Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs for direct reports.

· Manage shift schedules, attendance, and resource allocation for Supervisors and riders.

· Ensure that Delivery Associates maintain proper dress code and professional conduct with customers.

  1. Vendor Management & Van Hiring:

· Manage relationships with third-party van vendors, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.

· Oversee the sourcing, onboarding, and performance management of van partners, aligning with business requirements.

· Negotiate contracts and terms with van vendors to optimize cost and service quality.

· Monitor van fleet availability, compliance, and maintenance schedules through vendor channels.

  1. Financial Management & Security:

· Assume full ownership for all cash and loss recovery efforts within the station, diligently investigating discrepancies and ensuring timely resolution.

· Proactively identify potential financial risks and implement robust preventative measures to safeguard company assets.

· Take decisive action to initiate and file First Information Reports (FIRs) with local authorities independently, when required, for theft, fraud, or any other criminal activities impacting operations, seeing the process through to resolution.

· Implement and enforce strict cash handling procedures, reconciliation processes, and security protocols to minimize financial exposure.

· Conduct regular audits of financial processes and records to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.

  1. Logistics & Compliance:

· Possess strong knowledge of route optimization and efficient delivery scheduling.

· Arrange goods, plan optimal delivery routes, and process shipments effectively.

· Oversee operational budgets, cash management, and fleet management for the delivery center.

· Ensure strict adherence to operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and facilitate timely audits.

· Ensure full-scale and effective implementation of processes at the ground level.

  1. Stakeholder Management:

· Collaborate closely with the Amazon site leadership team (who manage the warehouse operations) to ensure seamless handovers and integrated workflows.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including warehouse operations, customer service, and regional logistics teams.

· Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization regarding operational performance, challenges, and initiatives.
