Job Title: "Cardiac Anaesthesia"

A cardiac anesthesiologist administers and manages anesthesia during cardiac surgeries, monitors a patient's vital signs and heart function, performs advanced cardiac monitoring like Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), develops personalized anesthesia care plans, and coordinates patient care with surgical and ICU teams to ensure safety and optimal outcomes. They also manage post-operative pain and provide emergency support when necessary.

Role & responsibilities :

A medical subspecialty where an anesthesiologist provides specialized care for patients undergoing heart and vascular surgeries, ensuring they are pain-free and unconscious.

Anesthesia Administration: Provide anesthesia for cardiac procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG) and valve replacements.

Training: Requires a medical degree (like an anesthesiologist), and often a one-year fellowship in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology after completing basic anesthesiology residency.

Duties: Developing knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and appropriate anesthetic techniques for heart patients, performing preoperative assessments, and administering anesthesia for cardiothoracic cases.

Scope: Focuses specifically on the complex needs of patients undergoing cardiac and cardiothoracic procedures.

Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor and control vital functions like heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, temperature, and fluid balance during and after surgery.

Advanced Monitoring: Perform and interpret advanced monitoring techniques, particularly Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), to assess the patient's heart and guide perioperative care.

Anesthesia Planning: Develop individualized anesthesia care plans in collaboration with surgeons to meet the unique needs of each patient.

Hemodynamic Management: Maintain stable hemodynamics, preserve myocardial function, ensure adequate cardiac output, and prevent myocardial ischemia.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, other anesthesiologists, and intensive care unit (ICU) teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Post-Operative Care: Oversee the patient's transition to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or ICU, managing pain and continuing to monitor their recovery.

Emergency Support: Provide immediate and appropriate responses to any emergencies or resuscitation needs that may arise.

Protocol Adherence: Ensure that all procedures and patient care are in compliance with established medical standards and safety protocols.
