The School Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role includes monitoring school property, enforcing school safety policies, responding to incidents, and supporting a positive and safe learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Campus Safety & Monitoring

  • Patrol school grounds, buildings, and surrounding areas to ensure safety.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, and common areas.
  • Ensure only authorized individuals enter the school premises.

2. Incident Response

  • Respond promptly to security incidents, disturbances, or emergencies.
  • De-escalate conflicts and provide support to students and staff.
  • Report and document all incidents accurately and in a timely manner.

3. Student & Staff Support

  • Assist students, staff, and visitors with safety-related concerns.
  • Promote positive relationships with students to encourage trust and cooperation.
  • Support staff during dismissal, arrival, transitions, and large events.

4. Policy Enforcement

  • Enforce school rules, safety regulations, and district policies.
  • Ensure compliance with visitor check-in and identification procedures.
  • Monitor and report any suspicious activity, hazards, or unsafe behavior.

5. Emergency Preparedness

  • Participate in school emergency drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation, etc.).
  • Assist in emergency planning and readiness.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency responders when necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional security training preferred.
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or school supervision is an asset.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with children and adolescents in a positive, respectful way.
  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols and conflict-resolution techniques.
