DMart Store – Inside Picking and Packing ProcessThe Inside Picking and Packing operation at DMart involves efficiently fulfilling customer orders—both online and in-store replenishment—by locating, collecting, and preparing items for dispatch.

1. Picking:

  • Store staff receive an order list generated from DMart's order management system.
  • Items are picked directly from designated store shelves or backroom inventory.
  • Pickers ensure product accuracy, batch/expiry verification (for FMCG and grocery items), and proper handling to prevent damage.
  • Each picked item is scanned using handheld barcode devices to update stock in real-time.

2. Packing:

  • After picking, products are moved to the packing zone.
  • Items are segregated based on category (e.g., food, non-food, fragile goods) and order type (online delivery or in-store pickup).
  • Packers ensure appropriate packaging materials are used—plastic or paper bags for regular goods, and boxes or bubble wraps for fragile or heavy items.
  • Orders are labeled with customer details, order ID, and route code for dispatch or customer collection.

3. Quality and Efficiency:

  • The process follows DMart's "Speed, Accuracy, and Hygiene" standards.
  • Regular audits ensure minimal picking errors and maintain order accuracy above 98%.
  • FIFO (First In, First Out) is practiced for perishable items to reduce waste.

4. Output:

  • Orders are handed over to the dispatch area for delivery routing or customer pickup.
  • Data from picking and packing operations feeds back into inventory control for restocking and demand planning.
